What do you think about military special operations?
A month ago I bought Ready Or Not and fell in love. I've played all the military games on the gaming market, but this is the game that makes me feel like a special forces soldier. The reality of the maps, the feeling of shooting, the sound, all of this gives me a "military orgasm". I only miss two things. More open maps and the atmosphere of Afghan villages and mountains. I know that Ready Or Not is a game about SWAT teams. But I dream of a long-range firefight in Afghan fields or villages. I dream of a DLC that turns us into a special forces operator who has to neutralize a target, capture an ammo depot or simply come under fire in poppy fields. Or recreate famous special missions like "Neptune Spear". What do you think about it?

I honestly believe this game would have found a much greater niche by appealing to fictional spec ops like Rainbow Six. Most people end up modding the game to make it more like that, or ignore the score system entirely. Nobody would complain about a full on military DLC.

Like you suggest, there could be a much wider array of missions, and a lot less trouble with AI behavior. CQB can still be fun and tense without needing to beanbag people. Devs were never good at subtle gameplay, like the Fairfax residence in SWAT4. Something like 23 Megabytes Per Second missions is comical levels of firefight compared to what they suggested in the trailer. It's like the game wanted to become spec ops but already had too many police assets invested.

To this day, Ready or Not is feature incomplete to stand against SWAT4; you could issue contextual orders through the squad cam and interact with sniper teams in that game from 2005. Some "balance" decisions in RoN also make no sense; having you choose to wear CS gas protection or less armor for apprehension utility instead of just being a given was also a strange pick. Again, it feels the game knew its calling as a mil shooter but already had other pants on.
Many of the games systems and mechanics feel like a half measure or proof of concept. Especially commander mode is extremely bare bones and unfinished. Like the idea of team mates getting stressed and potentially quitting is completely irrelevant because you can just hire a replacement. Which would be very easy to fix by significantly increasing the effectiveness of veteran officers across the board. Or the fact that missions do have a rather strong narrative component but you can't follow up on any of the events which also would be easy to fix with some VO, a news report or after action report on your desk. Or the whole equipment unlock system is trash since the LSPD apparently has infinite funding and can just equip a dozen officers with $100k NVGs but doesn't have an opening for a sniper/spotter team.

The game is so close to greatness that it really hurts to see it in this state.

I could list a dozen specific features this game really needs but i see no point in it because it already feels like talking to a wall.
I just want ......Police... stuff........ not the semi military crap.... there are Enough military games to last me a lifetime....
There are (or were if they haven't been updated) custom maps that do just that. I know you're talking about official content but I think they are going to keep it strictly a USA law enforcement-related game although there has been some overlap in terms of mission scenarios and even lore / story content that almost goes outside of local law enforcement roles - the last DLC had us going up against both seasoned cartel pirates and full-blown PMC operators after all in 3-Letter Triad.

There are also mods that do bring more military oriented gameplay such as changes to the ROE and the use of non-LEO equipment.

I didnt read everything but I've had a similar idea recently that's why im here. I think it's a good idea as long as it still comes off as Ready or Not. The essence of the game would still be there.

I can think of only 6 FPS games with a law enforcement setting (and only 2 that do it well). Although I have my issues with it, RoN's atmosphere is one of the few things I'd give any praise to.

I can't even begin to count the amount of FPS games where you play as a 'Delta Team Six' operator shooting illiterate goat herders for democracy and oil. It's such a played out and boring setting.

Besides, long range combat is godawful in RoN with how the AI still sprints like maniacs and all the texture pop in issues.

I think you should just go play ARMA and let this game be itself.
