Finding that last civilian
Is there an easier way to locate the last civilian or two in singleplayer mode? I finished a mission with all objectives and evidence secured but I still got a B rank just because that last damn civvie was hiding in a dark spot and took forever to find.

I used two options. The first and most humane - run and scream (F), then stop for a few seconds and listen to the surrounding sounds, usually they give themselves away by responding or starting to run around the room, move, etc. And there is a second option, less humane but no less effective - if there are cartridges left on a combat weapon (preferably the main one), go to such corners where a civilian could hide and just shoot in the air and again listen, they usually respond very cheerfully to shooting - yell, scream, cry, etc.
Time doesn't affect your rank. Killing suspects and team damage does. Same with killing civvies, or civvies who get caught in crossfire. Also shooting suspects even with non-lethal/less lethal weapons when they're zip-tied. Got only an A+ on 24MBPS because I shot the pedo streamer in the face a few times with pepperballs after arresting him.
However once all threats are eliminated you can order your squad to search and secure. MMB then 6, IIRC, maybe all civvies need secured too and they just pick up dropped weapons.
They'll sweep the map and find civvies. Not sure if they open doors though, if they do, maybe best not doing it on maps with traps.

Two things I hate about the scoring system are:
1) You can't tell your squad to use less lethal only. They will always switch to a lethal sidearm when they're dry on their primary.
2) My squad has an extremely irritating habit of running in the general direction of flashbangs that I've tossed. "Oh, bullets are coming from there and the commander just pulled a pin on that flashbang? Better walk right in then, get blinded and then cut to pieces by the people making those bullets appear."Friendly fire -30

If Order has been brought to Chaos (i.e. the bad guys are all dead or in handcuffs) use the orders menu to request backup. AI will find the missing civvie.

only if they ever saw them beforehand, otherwise they'll just stand still "securing" whatever

You are misunderstanding. Once the location has been secured, there are invisible AI follow-up teams that you can call in via the radio menu. It’s an abstraction probably designed specifically to address this issue. It doesn’t always work but most of the time it does.

Trailers are only available in quick play and are not controlled by the player, they appear as soon as the main objectives are completed and will only collect evidence you have secured.

For the last civilian, they should go out to find you now assuming they aren't already surrendered. If they aren't, they may be locked somewhere and that means the player hasn't searched eveywhere
