Is the IR laser still pointless?
I’m pretty sure suspects don’t notice lasers or flashlights so there’s no point in hiding your laser with IR lmao

Ummm... enemy AI has noticed flashlights and laser pointers since before 1.0. Don't expect them to see a laser/light and rush you - instead they go from an inactive state to taking cover and prepping for hostile combat.

Their actions are subtle but you'll notice them if you listen to their voice feedback when your laser/light breaks a corner that they're behind.

They do notice them actually, theres even videos about that.

There is no point in IR laser other than for the looks and convenience, the testing i did and also my experience shows that they dont see the laser, and if they see your flashlight they just make the game easier for you 99% of times https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5SF70ZA90E

One of the biggest reasons I like IR is when I’m playing with friends, I can see exactly where they’re aiming. It helps with deconfliction, communication, etc. Further, when I’m running NVGs, I find it easier to sneak up on people than letting them setup an ambush. Need your buddy to look at a specific location? Tell him to look at your laze.

This is the problem. Some people say they can and some people say they can’t. Nobody is sure.

I saw a video where the opposite happened, well idk then. I'm still gonna be using IR laser because it feels more immersive imo.

I just checked it and they only showed the flashlight so u were right, he said that lasers have the same effect but never actually showed it, watched that like a month ago so I forgot about it.
Even if they did notice your attachments, it doesn't matter. Target Identification by suspects eventually borders the supernatural and attempting "stealth" is not going to cut it. This is why doors should always be wedged when passed if you wish for a clean run.

Suspects may also be telepathically informed of your location and move towards the player characters when taken as convenient regardless of your equipment or position.

IR lasers are good for point shooting with NVGs and to see what your mates are aiming at.
not sure whats pointless about them.

You can see normal lasers under NVG’s in this game and suspects don’t notice them so the point of hiding it under IR is inconvenient and pointless when you could just equip the “all-purpose” standard laser.
1. As far as I can tell (from a gameplay perspective), they don't, and they've never been able to. Seen plenty of such cases of people attempting to test it. Suspects might say a voice line, which might indicate being alert, but the flashlight in their view doesn't affect what they actually do. Pretty sure it's one of those myths people spread because they heard it was planned, but it never came to fruition. If it did work, you would see it talked about more, and in every 'Dont Dos' advice list people offer up.

2. Even on the off chance it actually can be seen, like Duckie said many other factors at play are vastly more important. Suspect vision cones are very wide--they can also become alert by seeing you from very far away or through a tiny crack--and their receptivity and reactivity to the player increases the more chaos goes on during the level in their hearing range. If you aren't going "quiet" everywhere (taser, pepper ball, beanbag, lockpick, are quieter than guns, grenades, and breaching), then suspect stress is going to rise to the degree that if there is a suspect in your LoS, then they're probably already shooting at you.

TLDR a suspect might already be alert before you discover them, but it most likely was not due to the flashlight or laser specifically, it was because they saw you without you knowing, or heard events unfolding.

If my flashlight is on, and I find one of said alert suspects, I could see how that could be falsely associated with the flashlight being on specifically.
