It can be played solo with bots and solo no bots, but it is more fun with people

I like playing the game solo. I use to play a bit online with people in the past, specifically during adams update, or I'll play here and there with friends, but mostly I like to play solo.

Yeah, my playtime is 99% solo. It's fun, with flaws.
It can definitely be done solo, but the design around multiplayer is obvious. I'm more apt to do solo runs and keep the bots at the front door rather than have them come in with me when I do run it solo.

There's also a ton of modding potential on Nexus that can help facilitate better single player experiences. I'd even argue that this game truly shines because of mods and the different experiences you can create for multiplayer and singleplayer.
It's the best with a competent group. It's at it's worst with randos who play it like CoD. Playing with AI can be a lot of fun if you like giving orders.

I've beaten missions solo and done better solo at times.
There are obvious ones where you'll need 1-2 other players tho.

Same. Currently, nobody from my friends is ready to play (hah) and I definitely am not gonna play in it with randoms.

The first half of the game is pretty decent with bots, without any major flaws, but the second - is heavily constructed for co-op gameplay with a lack of polish for bots. They are frequently stuck, freeze at "move to" command, extremely slow to react on side / rearguard fire, very bad at throwing 'nades and missing suspects which are gonna to shoot them in the back.

So, if you care about just having fun in quick play, sure, the game will provide you some, but if you need to achieve good scores (some will say this is not what about the game), you find yourself frustrated because of bots more often than desirable.

Only today at Elephant mission, I placed a blue squad guard in a narrow, one way stair passage and ordered both squad members to look in that direction. Minute later one dude just runned pass them and gunned them both down, with full health and heavy full ceramic armor. Bots are decent hit scanners, sometimes slowpokes, such inconsistency never allows to rely on them even with simplest tasks.

But I will repeat myself self, if you going to just enjoy some casual gameplay - sure, it could be possible and fun.
87hrs, all solo, really enjoyed it. (One or two missions are very tough on your own though).
Haven't tried the DLCs yet.

Dark Waters is great, DLC 1 isn't bad either.
S ranked all missions solo, did mostly A and B rank in public lobbies. Overall all you're really missing out on is having actual players to cover you.

Over a thousand hours into the game and 99% was solo. The AI is good enough to play decent games if you know what to do and how to utilize them. I think it plays better IMO but some like it with live teammates better and I guess friends yes, rando's no way.

Of course you can do this Solo, there are achievements that you can only get single player in commander mode, so it must be possible.

I got "The Hermit
Complete Ready or Not in Ironman mode without losing a single officer" twice now. I got it before the update (without any mods and the enemy being Jonh Wick Style), but after the update I lost everything, so I was eager to get that gold watch again.
Now when I did that run, I did all missions Non Lethal, I completed all missions with the beanbag shotgun.

And yeah for my second run to get my golden watch back, I did use 1 mod, the mod that gives you more health, that was the only one.
I've played this game for 86 hours completely solo. It's hella fun.
yes solo is so easy because unless you have high skilled players bots are always better than actual people
How do you play this without bots? I haven't looked around enough and honestly just have them held up on the beginning of the stages.
