What is the suspect AI like nowadays?
Title really.

I was waiting to pick this up but want to know if the enemy AI has been polished, last time I checked in they were still unfairly headshoting whilst spinning on a dime?

I think you will get differing opinions when you ask this question and i think im in the minority but i have always thought it was fine. enemy AI is quick but it seems realistic that they would be quick to me.

I think it needs polishing and scaled.

Example the first mission with the gas station robbery AI should have a lower setting on reaction time and alertness then AI in a mission where the characters have training or background that would make them more alert. Also think they should give up easier the lower the scale.

Also AI tends to see you WAY far away. I hate the post office mission due to this.

BUT that said its still worth getting in my opinion. Its still doable to beat in Ironman mode you just have to be careful.

Still prefiring aimbots.
Currently the suspects are fairly aggressive, but they have put in a delay of accuracy. So you have a second or two to put the suspect down before they do too much damage. Though that time having passed, they will weave left and right while shooting you perfectly, though they have adjusted AI to target limbs. They also have perfect vision in the dark. Will hear footsteps and know it is the police etc. etc. Basically just throw the kitchen sink at the suspects, and they may surrender.

My speculations:

The developers did an AI survey, so I assume they will try to fix more of the AI in 2025. They already released a fallback and a rally AI behavior for the Dark Waters maps (as I understood it, dislike the maps so I haven't played them much), and probably will work on implementing this behavior on standard maps, and further broadening/adjusting suspect AI behavior.

So far we've had two updates a year, though they did state in late 2024 that they will roll out updates more frequently and independent of DLC releases, so there is a possibility they will squeeze in a third update this year. But it is all up in the air as we don't really get that much news from the devs.

Maybe hold off until 2026 if AI behavior is a big concern. By that time, you should have a pretty clear image of whether the AI will go anywhere, or if it's just more of the same. If it is more of the same, I would still recommend you picking it up on a decent sale to test it out. You got the two hour refund policy here on steam if you hate it.
I hadn't played in I think a year and a half and back then it was unplayable due to the enemy AI, now I think it's a lot better, but still needs a bit of work. I am also still having enemies shoot through walls at me before we make first contact, doesn't happen often but it's infuriating when that kills a run. Still, I am enjoying it overall, it's nice that it ended up actually getting "finished" at all since it spent so long in dev hell.
Def better than before after newest updates/patches. If you haven't gotten the game yet you are missing out lol RON is such a great game. It's a slow paced, realistic game so if you play like a COD player you won't have as much of a good time. AI are still aggressive but no longer 1 tap you alot like before. It's been toned down quite a bit. It still needs to be challenging yuh know? Slow down, walk the map, enjoy the graphics, immerse yourself, peek corners, make your shots count.
that's some good replies there chaps, thank you. Hard to draw a conclusion though!
I hope it reaches the Devs somehow, but it would be awesome if AI, both companions, suspects and civilians, couls see and react to flashlight and laser sight. That would make it even more thoughtful to use'em. Like, you should be able to aim your flashlight to sus or civ and have them blinded, a focused flashbang. They should also see your light or laser and react, like run, cover, hide, attack. That would be awesome.
Bad, the suspects are way too easy and have zero threat capability. They have newer animations which is nice, but they are ultimately insignificant because of their incompetence. Wait tell the hard difficulty to try and see if game improves.

Yeah differing opinions for sure some think its way too hard and I am in the boat of it can be way too easy at times especially if you do lethal which is why I run super hard mods to make it more a challenge
