Map Function?

I'm a new player. I notice there's a function on the map that allows to draw on it.

Do any of you guys use this and what does it actually do?

Gimmick.
No one use it for planning.

so all the drawing i could do in the map is just for nothing? could i manage my AI teams with the map function i.e. planning the way they should go ? or is it really just gimmick and does nothing at all (painting on the map)?

The A.I. doesnt use that currently. But i can see value for multiplayer planning perhaps? Never used it myself. People dont have enough attention span for planning. They just run and gun in until they learn the map and just use familiarity. Its nice to hear they have a tool for the few people who Do want to go full OG rainbow six with their mp buddies
