.300 Blackout rifle's effectiveness is questionable.
So its super cool for the game to include .300 blackround rounds. You dont see that used too much in video games. However the way I understand it, the .300 blackout round is supposed to be a bigger bullet than a 5.56mm (M4A1 and HK416 round) but the casing is size is about the same. Now as far as me and friends did with some testing and killing each other in the lobby firing range. It took 3 solid body shots with a 5.56 rifle but took 4 with the .300 blackout. I was at least presume it at the minium at least be the same number of shots but the .300 blackout rifle just seems to do overall weaker damage than the M4A1 but has more recoil than it.

Overall it just doesnt seem encourable to use a rifle like that in this game not unless there is some benefit the rifle has in this game that I am missing. Ideas?

I didn't do any testing myself but i tried the gun and after switching to another assault rifle i've noticed the other one is a lot more versatile.
It does feel weak yes, i often one-tap enemies with a shot to the chest with the SR-16, but with the .300 rifle i remember having to put multiple rounds in an enemy and feeling rather weak doing so.

It is possible that right now the .300 BLK could be subsonic which would make it weaker than 5.56.

It sounds cool when you shoot it

The believe that is the case IRL. It would be nice however if there is something in game that could give us that sort of hint or clue, but I know its basically still the Alpha build (and a really good one), just now Early Access. Maybe as time goes on there will be material provided in game as to why we should consider using this weapon.

Bigger round doesn't always mean more power, especially when it comes to penetrating armor. A standard .300 round will have more mass, but a lower velocity and higher diameter which means energy is more evenly dispersed when contacting armor. There's a reason why platforms like the 5-7 and MP7 exist. If you have the stomach for it, watch some hospital videos comparing 5.56 and 7.62 x 39 wounds. I would rather take my chances with the larger bullet. The entire point of the .300 round was to achieve ballistics similar to the 7.62x39, to better suit short barrel carbines and pistols, and improve on 9mm in subsonic performance.

Agreed. It's certainly one thing this game lacks over SWAT 4, which was very clear on how weapons operated when you selected them.

300 blackout is a heavier bullet and designed to be used with suppressed AR15 rifles, the subsonic bullet would not create a sonic crack and would increase the effectiveness of the suppressed weapon in its intended goal.

.300blk is intended to be used in AR pattern rifles while supressed. There are supersonic loads made and sold aswell. Bullet speed would have no bearing on damage done to flesh since all bullets travel fast enough to pierce and damage soft targets. The only difference that it would affect is its ability to punch through certain objects, however at the range this game takes place (short) it would have no issue performance wise with handling any situation. Deffinatly shouldnt be worse than 5.56 loaded weapons.

my understanding is that the .300 has roughly the same energy, lower velocity and twice the grain of a 5.56. really it should be doing large amounts of damage to soft targets and less to those with body armour. hopefully selecting ammo types makes a return
