There are also unique cases where we have allowed users to voice certain opinions, which would normally violate our rules and Steam TOS, for Valve to come in and remove said comment. We enforce the rules because its what we volunteered for, and also its what Valve wants us to. All users who are banned are free to reach out to one of us in moderation and ask for a link to appeal, but in most cases, there is a history of offenses that means they won't come back.
Please tell us more
Or is it by saying that people doing that do not deserve any kind of attention or to be taken seriously?
Take it easy my man.
My take on "civil discussion" has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing, of course there can be civil discussion among people with different opinions, that's the definition of civil discussion
I did not insult or done anything to anyone, I didn't wish anyone to d*, I didn't tell anyone to suic*, I didn't have any toxic behavior
What I did is condemning and disrespecting toxic behaviors.
The problem here is that people like the OP thinks that people has been banned for criticism and not for toxic behavior.
You can't expect not to be banned after having toxic behavior only because while having such behavior you were doing "valid criticism" (I'd argue how much valid they are but that's another topic)
You can bring your criticism without being toxic, otherwise a ban is more than deserved
I have the impression if you would critique the game and say something like 'enjoy your ban and gtfo' you would be off the forum fast.
Since you defend the game youre good to go though.
Thats the problem more and more people are seeing. Have you read all the threads? Have you read the comments under the posts in the news hub? especially of the video contest?
It seems to me that you have a wrong feeling about the community. Its not all flowers and sunshine.
Either way since you say youre calm, i wonder how 'enjoy your ban and GTFO' is not passive aggressive.
Then again i dont care, lets not derail this thread furhter, youre going to get me banned just by arguing with you and starting 'unrest'
Edit: and what do you mean people like the op... iam the op.
I did see criticism on the forums not being removed: if mods were removing criticism then it wouldn't make sense for such comments to still be present since mods are really active
So, why some get removed and others don't? Cause the other probably had offensive and toxic behavior that break the forum's rules.
It's kind of simple why I said "gtfo": I believe that using kind words/expressions do not underline properly what kind of threatment you deserve if you're disrespecting people and having toxic behavior
What I'm seeing is people complaining about censorship and mods having always to clarify this "you can say anything about the game but if you come to insulting and having toxic behavior we're gonna ban you" and then seeing under such comment people saying really bad things about the game that do not get censored
So in the end it's 1+1
Me saying "enjoy the ban" simply underline that your ban comes as consequence of your actions that are not "criticism" but just a rule breaking behavior
Sry, didn't notice
No, I'm not: as consequence of your actions I'll kick you out of my house and never let you enter again
That's how you threat toxic behaviors, not with kind and loving expressions and behavior
That's not a great example, we treat all users equally on the forums, our rules are pretty simple with the major one being treat everyone with respect. The post in question was removed, so let's not drag it out
I find the example pretty fitting: in this forum people has to follow your rules, otherwise they'll get a ban.
Isn't the dynamic pretty the same?
Just wanna know your pov not trying to change it
I think I misunderstood it initially, but it's still not the best. The forums (along with the Discords and Reddit) are public places for people to meet and discuss the games, so I wouldn't exactly say it was a private spot for Void. We aim (and are taught) to treat people fairly, and I'm happy with our current moderation methods and system to achieve that goal. Criticism isn't on our ban list, but other issues are
I didn't meant to say that they're the same, my example was meant for proving wrong his "if you say that then you're automatically toxic" argument
If we wanna do an analogy with the forum we can talk about someone smoking in a public area where smoking is prohibited. What happens when they catch you? You get kicked out and if the owner decides so he can prevent you from entering again
It doesn't change much, the first example wasn't an analogy with the forum
