What's the point of breaching tools when traps are a thing?
Now I don't know exactly how C2 will work on breaching the door, but I'm guessing the ram and the shotgun both set off traps.. which means it's generally a good idea to use lockpicks everywhere you can to check the door first, and once you're there it's just as fast to open or kick the door down. Do they have some kind of special advantage or are they only force use in combination with optiwand?

the ram is best for quick room clearing with a coordinated team and when a door is blocked

the shotgun is basically the same as the ram but I think it's simply just a shotgun as your secondary, held aside to be more utility than assault

it all depends on your approach to the situation but I think it only seems that way at the moment because it only seems viable to have a stealth-ish approach to most scenarios. currently, the snake cam is the best way to go because it's just has a lot more uses

We have a dedicated operator, me, to use the Optiwand. I check every door. If its trapped, we peek or pick then peek and disarm. If there are suspects at the door after we do this, we generally kick, ram or toss in a bang.

The number of traps on the game are unrealistic to real life LA S.W.A.T. experience. Maybe they are realistic to other agencies but not LA. They are part of the game though so the best you can do is work with them.

I'm mixed about the traps. I feel the best approach is to make them much more random, even to the point that you may not see one for multiple maps. Having them does add to immersion IMO, but it would be just as intriguing and realistic not seeing them every level, but knowing one just might be there the next time.
I kind of agree, as is they're there so frequently that they basically never take me by surprised and I rarely feel like I was punished or even unrewarded for not being ultra careful to check every door possible for traps. Makes me feel railroaded to a very specific way of approaching doors.

I use the shotgun but from a safe distance if there is a trap and nobody is stacked up super close it wont kill you. I remember seeing that using equipment has a affect on the enemy and civilians morale I cant remember exactly what the different amounts for each item like the ram, shotgun, c2, stingers, and flashes were but your more likely gonna run into more aggressive ai and Olympic 100 meter sprinting civilians going into a room sneaky squirrel all the time.

Breaching tools do have their merits when used properly. Traps are a big threat, however, the bigger threat is breaching a door in a way that alerts AI to your position. So instead, what you want to do is snake cam every door. Snake cams can spot traps (Except for on some doors where the view or cam itself may be blocked) as well as hostiles. ONLY AFTER you snakecam and get a general idea of how you want to progress should you even attempt to use a breaching tool.

-Battering Ram will disorient AI that are VERY CLOSE to the door upon hit. In addition to this, just like with C2 and Breaching Shotty, it will demoralize them. BS & C2 will both demoralize more. The main pro for the Battering Ram is that it has the smallest alert area. I can really only suggest the Ram if you're in a more close-quarters situation, or you're in a place with a lot of open area where AI may come swinging around corners (Like the newer Hotel tileset, for example). You can breach with a ram without standing directly in front of the door, but of course the range is limited. This is good when used in conjunction with a Shield. Also, if your plan is to demoralize/disorient AI on the other side of the door, kicking is a decent option if you have nothing else. However, the Ram WILL be more effective, AND kicking often requires 2-3 kicks, which may result in the AI being alerted before you can breach. No bueno.

-C2 has a high blast radius capable of disorienting further and stronger. They also deal damage, which can be either a pro or a con. It's also of course remote-detonate, which means your squad can be entirely out of the way, should a gunman start popping off at the door (which they shouldn't), or in case there's a trap. This will, of course, alert a large area.

-Breaching shotgun allows you to breach a door from afar, which should not only clear any trap but also slightly demoralize any AI close to the door.

The main pro of both C2 and Breach Shotty is that if a hostile is at a bad position or your team doesn't have a good chance at getting a grenade inside the room, you can breach from a distance. This will result in one of two things: 1) The AI gets angry that you just knocked down his priceless cherryoak stained door and runs at you and your kill squad, all of whom are in cover and waiting for him, or 2) The AI gets disoriented or demoralized behind the door, and before they can act, your squaddie is able to chuck a bang into the room.

The main con of the C2, Breaching Shotty and Battering ram is that they all have a pretty decent chance of making the AI either run straight at you or fire at you from inside the room, through walls. This is why it is imperative that you scout the room out first with snakecam and make sure your squad is up to speed on everything,

C2, breaching shotgun and battering ram all set off traps.

C2 and breaching shotgun you can do it from safe distance but not battering ram.

C2 will cause a lot of smoke that blocks your vision.

Breaching shotgun needs 2 to 3 rounds to completely open the door and AI will spot and shoot at you after the door is opened even though it's not completely opened because you put a big hole in the door.

No you don't have to use them in conjunction with the wand except maybe battering ram if you don't wanna die.

Ive played a few games with a team where no optiwand is used. Everyone takes a breaching shotgun and we do a stack with a pointman covering the door we want to breach and a team leader (which alternates as we rotate through the rooms) which orders the breach and tells the pointman to enter the room (for example clear left). Usually its a 2-3 setup and we move with 2 seperate elements to clear the map faster (each element has the sane setup of breacher/leader and pointman).

We use the shotgun to breach doors from a safe distance and it gets rid of any traps that get set off when the door gets blasted open. Its a high speed but also different way to play. Works well on bomb maps. C2 is really good if you use the wand to see whats on the other side. If you play with ai team mates like i do mostly. Its great to c2 rooms with the queue command and breach from 2 entrances.
