Will this ever be on GOG?
I love GOG but it doesnt seem to have many multiplayer games. So i was wondering if this might turn up there or is there some barrier that prevents it? Anyone know?

Yeah, piracy. You can literally just go download any GOG game for free, and have it be a legit copy without any funny business. Except always online/account linked games. But stuff like Stalker 2, it was literally available for free download on launch day. So, I'm actually VERY surprised that ANY dev outside of like 1 or 2 man indie teams on their first game would use GOG.

Their whole shtick is "DRM free", and by golly it sure is. People pass them games out like free candy. What I don't get, though, is how the sites distributing them are allowed to. Same site, which are well know, popular, and been around for a while, even with a similar name, just post all the games for free, the highest tier/ultimate editions + all DLC, and even the patches.

I remember being a kid and trying to download sim city and roller coaster tycoon for free, spending night working at it, trying to get cracks to work, etc. Now, people can just go download a free AAA game on launch day, with no fussing around. I literally have NO CLUE how these sites continue to operate, but that's exactly why I feel its unlikely to go to GOG.

I just like to actually Own my games, not just have a license to play, like on steam. You can download the installer from GOG, put it on a HDD and no one can mess with you. I dont want to worry about what steam does in the future, either when Gaben finally caves and sells or he dies of diabetes and his son sells it to EA or whoever. Or when theres a situation where i dont have internet access for some reason. Many things could happen.

And piracy isnt as big of a problem you might think. There have been multiple studies saying that people want to officially buy their games, and most people who pirate, they wouldnt buy the game anyways. A poor kid in india can barely manage food, let him download and play. The issue is a bit complex. Some games do well if you release them on steam first with drm and then gog in a year or two when the buzz has died down. Its just a matter of assessing when to do what with what game. When a game is pirated, it can generate buzz, leading to increased awareness. Theres pretty good data on this by now.

Plus gog is just so nice with all the game preservation stuff theyre doing, i just want to support that platform.

As for Ready or Not, i think gog could get us more players online and bump the player count from a few thousand to ten. The bigger buzz for this game has died down as well so, i think gog would only make them more money. Even if people pirate it, they might wonder how much more fun online could be with randoms or friends and they buy it on a sale or something.

I also hope we get this chance to buy RoN over on GOG! The game has been cracked for years so piracy would be no more of a concern than it already is. It's getting harder for me to justify buying games that I can't back up myself and guarantee that I fully own. I hope it's being considered internally.

I think, the argument of people sharing a GOG game with the entire world is probably a bit too drastic. After all, those who feel ok downloading a game in the internet do it anyway. So yea, I assume it happens people give a copy to friends but it is probably not such a huge impact as presented here. (Otherwise why would companies release big games on GOG if it hurts them so much?)
In any case I agree, I prefer my games on GOG, too. If one day my steam account would be locked or valve goes bankrupt or I get hacked... I wouldn't know what to do.

Yeah, GOG has problems, but it does perform an important service in regards to older titles. But for newer ones, I think it's a bad idea.

Having said that, if one already paid for the game, I see no problem with getting an "offline" version. The 'always online' thing is unfair, so getting a 'local' copy makes that right, in my mind.
but that's the thing, you won't get that offline version with steam. or if you do, it's all up to the publisher, dev. which is highly unlikely that they'll put effort into it. with Gog, it's guaranteed that you'll have a drm free version
