Threw gas.. failed objective .. can you physically kill with the actual gas canister? lol

So my buddy threw a gas into a room and the suspect we had to arrest immediately died.. not only did they die but their head exploded lol. It's either a glitch or you can actually kill suspects by physically hitting them with the actual gas canister. This happen to anyone else?

I'm not as much of an expert on how likely it is to happen, but me and a friend had it happen twice today trying to complete Twisted Nerve non-lethal, also using the gas haha
