New update is close to bricking my new computer
Before the update, my newish computer has been fast as hell with no issues. Seeing as the update was grinding all other programs and functions to a standstill (including the mouse), I decided to cancel the update and uninstall the game until Void goes into timeout and thinks about what they've done. Jokes on me though, because trying to uninstall the game makes EVERYTHING on my computer function worse, and it's only getting worse as I try to get this virus of a game off of my computer. Closing out Steam and every other process does nothing to help.

What the hell Void?

I'm not too technical, though I would have to imagine the uninstall issue is closer to Steams side. I would recommend hitting uninstall via Steam, and then following the steps below for a clean uninstall

5) If all else fails, do a clean install below:
Uninstall Ready or Not on Steam
Navigate to Steam > Steamapps > Common > Delete "ReadyorNot"
Navigate to %appdata% > local (%appdata by default is roaming) > delete "ReadyorNot"
Reinstall the game via Steam

Hahah the EXACT same series of events happened to me! I ended up having to reboot my pc. When I opened Steam, it had fortunately automatically paused the download/install. So I quickly cancelled that and then uninstalled the game.
I'm going to leave it uninstalled until this is all sorted out.
Its a joke and its not steam stop that rubbish.

Had very similar issues... Ended up having to hard close (via task manager) Steam all together then uninstall Ready or Not outside of Steam. Trying to re-download it now. It's gone from 59gb to 107gb of necessary disk space. ...What on earth.

it is not steam it is 100% the game i get it every update these fools put out.they expect you to uninstall+reinstall and blame steam or your pc...btw when you uninstall this game check your ready or not folder and you will see it still left a copy of itself 54gb.

Don't reinstall it until at least the storage size is fix, literally bought the other day so I'm pretty disappointed. Just looking through threads to see if this game isn't actually a virus that I need to get a refund on and get a malwarebytes subscription instead:steamthumbsdown:

What's your system storage size? Just so you know, a good rule of thumb is to never fill a SSD beyond 80%.

It's not a virus, don't be a Chad.
Most of the people who post these threads do not understand how computers work. You especially if you think any of what any of you have said is even remotely the case. Your PC just isn't as good as you think it is, and it shows. People posting about using ♥♥♥♥ like Malwareybytes are actual boomers who get viruses on their PC. Been running common sense since '95 and I've never had a computer virus. Learn to use a computer properly instead of hamfisting everything and getting mad when you confuse the process controller on your pc by killing threads in process by the cpu. If you're not using an SSD (and more likely an NVME one) the update will take a couple hours. Even with an SSD and a fast cpu you're still looking at likely an hour. It has to read bits and pieces of files and then piecemeal update them until it looks like the servers file structure. You're not downloading the update as it is, you're downloading a delta file that has code that tells the pc where to put what bit of update. An update was not slowing your computer, it sounds like you installed the game on your C drive (drive with windows installed). This is a foolish and amateur gamer mistake. Games should never be installed on the C drive for this reason. Your pc is trying to operate the OS, while doing the install process on the same drive. It's likely you hit max bandwidth for your drive. Could be also that your drive is almost full. It could be that you do not have an SSD and instead think that an HDD is even usable with todays applications. A HDD will not be able to unpack the update and run the OS at a stable speed, they simply aren't fast enough, and do not have enough memory bandwidth or throughput.

There's no reason not to install games on the C drive if your using an SSD. Even a SATA drive should be fine

1 TB SSD

Edit: With 700 GB free space

I mean, sure, but some programs have bandwidth limits, as do drives themselves. Even with a very good computer, a scan from malwarebytes will render the PC incapable of running at normal speed because of how much of the disc is being accessed. Even SSDs can still get bogged down by massive read/write operations. Running anything on top of an extensive operation such as that WILL slow down the pc, even if it's top of the line. Programs simply don't/cannot have/nor should be given total control to run the PC at full tilt, or PCs wouldn't last more than a couple years. And so they don't. If steam sees the OS writing or reading at 200mb/s it will not write. Steam itself when unpacking files from the download to the destination cannot write faster than 50mb/s. If the OS sees another program already reading writing, it will not attempt to slow it's own process to accommodate. This is what's going to cause slow down. Also, if perhaps you are trying to read a folder that is being written to or vice versa, only one operation can be done at a time. Therefore one process will have to wait for the other. It's just not good practice, as it creates conditions that are unfavorable for overall computer use as well as gaming performance loss. It wasn't so long ago (3-5 years) even top of the line computers could not run an AV scan and a game at the same time unless they were on separate drives.
