Is the taser any good?
Tasered a suspect up close, he didn't even fall over. Told him to drop the weapon, he refused, tells me to ♥♥♥♥ off, turns around and runs away.

Is this normal?

It is "realistic" because tasers in real life are not 100% effective and do fail, but is it fun and fair? Probably not.

I haven't tried it but, on a similar note, they shrug off bean bags from a SG as if it's a paintball gun.

Some things are, but I feel like RON is far from the most realistic tactical game out there.

Just use it exclusively when someone you trust has a gun pointed at the suspect, never as a main weapon

From a gameplay standpoint it's awful but form a authenticity standpoint less lethals being terrible is closer to true to life.

Tasers launch 2 barbs, both need to make contact to complete the circuit. The further apart on the body the barbs land, the better the taser is at involuntary muscle contractions. With the area in between the two barbs being the most heavily affected. So when deploying the taser you ideally want to 'cross the beltline' put one barb in the upper body and one barb in the legs. The newer tasers have two different aiming lasers for this purpose. So the closer you are to someone when you deploy the taser the more likely the barbs will land closer to each other and the less effect the taser is likely going to be. As an aside, removing the barbs is...unpleasant. It was worse than being rocked.

Obviously the in-game taser lacks that complexity but it still tends to be more reliable than the in-game OC spray.

I don't really know a taser works in a real situation, but in my experience ingame it doesn't seem so "fallacious", in fact I would say that it almost always paralyzes.

@ Graywolf364, always a pleasure to read your posts

I think there's also a distinction between the taser or other less lethal not being effective and genuine bugs with the AI. Sometimes the suspects seem to get stuck in the drunkenly stumble around animation and don't progress to a surrender.

I'm glad someone likes my ridiculously detailed and unnecessary real world explanations!

however, I remember someone who had written about problems related to multiplayer, perhaps the fact that it almost always works for me depends on the fact that I play sp?

it's been a long time since I tried mp ...
