Lets say you walk up to a door and you mirror it, only to find a suspect with a gun standing in front of the door. Here is my anecdote:
Peek the door and THEN KICK. This will successfully disorient the suspect and often have them stumbling away from you, allowing you to detain or eliminate the suspect however the scenario calls for.
I hope that helps
Edit: Actually somehow it does the opposite of what I just said. That doesn't seem intentional. Kicking a door slightly raises the morale of suspects.
If you try to kick a closed door youll probably get shot and die before the door opens or youll trigger a trap and get shot and die.
Yeah, breaching shotguns are a thing.
Never stand in front of the door. Always from the side.
Kicking the door open with a suspect right behind can often stun him, which makes arrest easier.
Likewise, kicking the door when a civi is right behind it also makes securing them easier (as they're less likely to run around like crazy)
In general though, kicking doors is quite dangerous when you aren't sure what's on the other side. When in doubt, go with other entry options imo, and only kick when you feel confident.
