Why does optiwand exist in this game?
So this game is presented as "realistic as possible". I searched for a thing called optiwand or under the door camera and found nothing SWAT-related. No SWAT training-video or wiki does mention such a piece of technology.
So i watched this video here, where a former SWAT-member clarified, that nothing like this exists!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wbqjoTx_Tc

So why is this type of fantasy-technology used in so many SWAT games, wich has the relistic-flag on it? Should this be deleted from the game if it wants to represent a realistic SWAT experience?

It's called a snake camera. Looks nothing like an optiwand but functionally is more or less the same.

I have zero real life knowledge about all this, but I keep hearing real life SWAT teams don't use these, though some higher-level spec-ops units might. Again, that may be wrong.

However, in-game, I think it is there for two reasons: First, it was in SWAT 4 and people will simply want it, and second, with suspects being super deadly, AI officers not very bright, and half of the doors being trapped, going in blind / trying to peek the door is super dangerous, especially in solo. Optiwand makes it a bit les suicidal.

Anyway, if one wants to play it old-school style, there's nothing holding you back from not using it.

Optiwand exists in the game so old people playing and praising this game would not die the second they open the door.

SWAT equipment isn't uniform across the US and many of them adopt/use different things, one dude saying they had nothing like that means absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nothing.

Also, tech like this has been around for a while iirc, but that's neither here nor there.

Hell, there's even one that's like a pipe snake that goes under the door like lmfao do some research before appealing to authority in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ youtube video of a guy from one precinct acting like he knows the universal everything they have in every SWAT team ever. I'm judging that's how he acted given your post. Ill have to watch to see if he's irresponsible or if you're just one of those ppl who haul off on the first thing they're told.

Why so rude? Have had a bad day?

As i wrote, i watched several videos of SWAT units in action and training. And there was nothing to see such as a "under the door cam". I searched for omniwand and SWAT equipment - nowhere was such a thing mentioned. I was interested how this is used in real SWAT operations. Nowhere is this mentioned.

So i came to watch the video i posted and this police officer IS (or WAS) a real SWAT leader. So he says very clearly that ther is no such thing like a omniwand. I don't know any SWAT officer personally, i could ask.

But now it's solved. Thanks to Lukasoss. But i wonder why there is so few information about it. This thing seems to be so handy and important to me.

You Zero Hour trolls are too obvious now. Such low effort. Anyone who has played the game knows you can quite easily get killed using an optiwand LONG before that door comes open.

Dude, I'm permanently muted in Zero Hour and I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about that game. No you cannot get killed using optiwand since AI does not shoot through doors unless they see you and you can and should play without it, that means flashing/gasing/stingering every room you enter, That's the correct way to play it but for boomers like you they (actually SWAT 4 devs) added the optiwand so it would not be too difficult.

Less than 24 hours ago you were praising ZH on here. Your posting history is full of praising ZH. Most posts less than a week old. All you do is troll here, likely don't even own the game. So, just go back to Zero Hour unless you were banned there in the last 24 hours because yesterday you LOVED that game! XD XD Again, low effort and too obvious. Back to your cave.

You confused me with someone or you just create a story in your head. I would not be suprised if you suffer from some schizofrenia if you think I'm a ZH fanboy "according to my post history". Just take your meds.

It was in SWAT 4.

Does something like the Optiwand exist? Sort of...they did use (still do?) mirrors on the end of a stick that could let the officer get a decent glimpse into a room before they enter it, but that requires the door be opened. (And the people in the room could easily see the mirror in the doorway.)

Fiber optic cameras exist, dunno if SWAT/specops teams use them though for an early preview of what's on the other side of the door. IIRC, IRL, most casualties in these types of situations occur in doorways. I'd imagine because of this there'd be a heavy demand for something like the optiwand. As you mentioned I can't find anything, but it seems like such a no-brainer.

Lets be real the technology behind a micro cam on a stick isnt magic, some forces may use it others dont, its definitely not as helpful as in the game but how on earth can you doubt the existence of that device in the first place?
DarkMachine Dec 23, 2021 @ 9:39am
As far as I extensively researched, the "optiwand" is just a fictional tool created just for the convenience for SWAT 4 and now RoN however tiny optical camera that is extendable and flexible does indeed exist and have been used in the medical industry like surgical application for many decades now. They are mostly called "snake cam" and are used by law enforcement, paramilitary and military groups.

Its amusing how some accuse the OP of not researching then they do a quick search, find a product on a site called 'Detective Store" and immediately validate its use in the game. Of course the guy in the video knows the technology exists, he even says he is sure some agencies have a variation of it. I would suspect its use is limited, most likely when the swat teams presence is not known. Once their presence is known you would not want to be standing right at the door sticking something under it. https://i.imgur.com/TMFGhoo.jpeg

So the point is what? Technology exist but swat refuses to use it so player shouldnt have access to such technology either?

Sure lets say make it less viable, I dont care… he k remove it I really dont give a ♥♥♥♥… but come one whats the point here really. Just some nitpicking from a „achshuaelly“ guy on the internet. Who used the internet to prove his point.
