I’m thinkinf about buying the game and am wondering if it can be played without a network connection.

yes...all I do tbh. ayoo if you lookin for coop im sort of new as well. I played for a few weeks and now after the big update im back at it

I would wait for some more AI improvements, but yes, you can already play singleplayer.
