Frequent Crash to Desktop Since 6.0 Solutions Thread
I've been having this problem, and it seems a lot of you have too. It seems more common with late gen Intel chips and with 40xx Series NVIDIA cards but some others with fast hardware are having this problem too.

I had a longer thread running and people have been posting solutions that worked for them. I have gathered these solutions up and written them below for you. I thought I had the problem fixed until it started up a few days ago after restarting my computer. I went from not being able to play 2 turns without crashing, to finishing several 100+ turn campaigns, and back to crashing constantly. I added in "closing fire fox" and "disabling steam overlay" last and its back to working fine again for about 3 hours with no crashes.

I recommend you do all of these things and always do them. Steam overlay used to crash my game about a year ago but it has since been fixed so i didn't think to disable it again. Either way, it doesn't hurt to implement all of these options.

I hope this helps you out!

1) Uninstall and delete all local files manually including mod directory, everything in %appdata% pertinent to WH3, and the folder with the WH3 executable in %steamapps/common%. Reinstall. Verify game integrity.

Open up the game once to the start menu. Then immediately quit (this generates some local files).

*******IF YOUR LAUNCHER ISN'T WORKING OR IS LAGGY AH YOU SHOULD DOWNLOAD PROP JOES MOD MANAGER****************

2)
a. Add the tag "-dx11" into the launch command line that you can find in steam library outliner -> right click on wh3 -> properties. Then type -dx11 into the launch command line.
b. In the general tab - disable steam overlay!!!!!

3) Find the Wh3 executable in your steam folder. Open properties. Use Windows 8 compatibility mode.

4) Same dialog box - check run as administrator.

5)
Create OR Update user.script.txt in the directory listed below
(If you are following the guide and deleted all your local files you will be creating this with notepad)

...\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\scripts\user.script.txt

(it's in a hidden folder - you can find this easily by typing %appdata% in windows explorer address bar. )

The txt file should read (feel free to just copy next two lines)....

HYBRID_CPUS_TREAT_ALL_CORES_UNIFORMLY true;
number_of_threads 5;

6) Processor Affinity CPU 0 through CPU 6 disabled

I achieved this by using a program called process lasso and unchecked CPU 0 through CPU 6 affinity on wh3.exe

And finally........

7) Close mozilla firefox and don't EVER open it while you are playing TWWH3!!!

Thanks. I did most of these and the game improved a lot. My rig is a bit dated and the game always ran poorly in the campaign map, unsurprisingly, but lately it started CTDing which it had never done before...

Seems like one or more of these fixes improved the situation considerably. Except for the fact that the game doesn't shut correcly and freezes when I confirm that I want to close it. But that's bearable I guess. CA has some skill issue with "optimisation".

edit: nvm it keeps crashing anyway. Maybe my campaign got corrupted, idk. After 140 turns who knows... Sad.
