Right Click Drag Not Working

It was alright in the prologue and in the first few turns into a campaign but after a few battles the right click drag does not work to adjust the direction and formation of unit. When I hold down right click the the graphic to show how the unit will oriented doesn't even pop up instead it just places the unit straight down often in a thin column. I can only sometimes work around by flicking the mouse very quickly but that's not practical in the slightest. Also I'm playing on the Linux version.

The game's basically unplayable and I'm starting to regret the purchase, any help that can be offered would be appreciated.
