Known Issues [Updated 06/09/2023] Total War: WARHAMMER III
Greetings all!

Below you can find the current list of issues that have been reported and are currently under review for future development. Please be advised that this list is not exhaustive and there are more fixes in the works. We will work to update this list periodically with the new issues we're tracking and status changes, and encourage you to report any issues that are not captured on the list.

PLEASE NOTE:
  • Items listed under "AIMING TO BE FIXED IN XXX" are, as stated, aiming to be fixed in the mentioned version. Although we do our best to achieve all of these, some items do not always make it in to the update if our QA detect additional issues during final stage testing.
  • Items marked as [NEW] are newly added to the list and do not always denote newly reported bugs.
  • As we get closer to the release of an update or patch, more items may be moved to the "AIMING TO BE FIXED IN XXX" list. As such, the current marked items do not always represent the final list.

ISSUES WE ARE AWARE OF

  • Iron Daemon & Dreadquake Mortar manual fire orders ignored despite UI showing orders present.
  • Event Message "Army Receives Plague" has placeholder text.
  • Sea encounters can cause the game to crash.
  • Some trait and tech tags are incorrect/do not work.
  • The UI scale can't be adjusted below 120% on 4K screens.
  • Units (particularly flying and cavalry) getting stuck, calling back a group.
  • Cathay Fire Rain Rocket crew continue fighting after being dismembered/beheaded.
  • AI controlled Vlad von Carstein is too tough in battle.
  • All Chaos Dwarfs factions show player's manufactory upgrades in the UI.
  • AI controlled Dark Elf factions build too many Black Arks.
  • Continued reports of anti-player bias in campaign AI targeting.
  • Line of sight issues over some unit types and certain map features.
  • Hellcannon projectiles alter course towards end of firing arc causing misses.
  • Valkia slam attack causes grey texture at point of impact.
  • Some Norsca Monster Hunts not working correctly.

  • Opening some UI panels causing performance issues.
  • Various siege and settlement battle issues (e.g weak Settlement Garrisons, weak walls and gates, ladder deployment, awkward pathfinding).
  • N'kari's charge animation seems to trigger too early.
  • Various missing sync kills.
  • Grimgor 'Enemy Killed in Battle' event message has incorrect faction name.
  • Various units unaffected by red line skills.
  • Some uncommon/common magic items showing better stats than rare items.
  • Incorrect model for Skink Oracle showing in Character details.
  • Blood splatter flickering on the ground (if Blood Pack enabled).
  • Cylostra is sometimes blocked from attacking an enemy settlement or army.
  • Wrong Ogre Kingdoms contract mission is sometimes given when selecting a specific contract.
  • Destroying a Tower on High Elf - Lothern will create a breach in the wall, leaving floating decals.
  • Whispers of T'zarkan could be more frequent.
  • Units spawning under the map.
  • Unique traits introduced in Warhammer III require balancing.
  • Ku'gath has a rough start in Immortal Empires.
  • Borrowed armies from factions will loyalty sometimes rebel.
  • Threaten may cause the game to crash in multiplayer campaigns.
  • Orion's faction ability can make it easy to generate free armies.
  • Visual issues with portraits.
  • Some unit models have excessively bright bloom.
  • Ambushing an army in forced march and letting them walk of the map causes the opposing army to die.
  • Autoresolve values seems overly favourable towards the player in Immortal Empires.
  • Inconsistencies in passive abilities or traits descriptions.

  • Eyestrain & sickness.
  • Visual issues with trees spawning on maps.
  • Changed game settings are not saved, if player is leaving the game without properly closing it.
  • Chasing routing units is somewhat ineffective.
  • Cults are not impactful in campaign gameplay.
  • Corruption effects border textures visual issues.
  • Intended plague effects can easily get overwritten by other plagues.
  • Multiplayer desyncs when the AI's turn ends if one player is still going through the end turn cycle.
    If you are experiencing this issue, please send DxDiags[support.sega.com] and multiplayer logs to the Support Forums[forums.totalwar.com]. This will help our multiplayers team investigate the issue.

UNDER REVIEW

NOTE: These are items that have had development work but will require your ongoing feedback to see the impact of the changes.

  • Continued reports of anti-player bias in campaign AI targeting.
    (AI updated in 4.0)
  • AI controlled Dark Elf factions build too many Black Arks.
    (Changes to AI Black Ark recruitment in 4.0)
  • Settlement Garrisons considered weak.
    (Changes to garrisons in 4.0)

COMMENTS

  • In some instances garrison will be replenished instantly.
    We have been unable to replicate this and have deemed it fixed. If you are still encountering this issue, please let us know via the support forums.
  • Some Lords with titles have their title appearing twice.
    This issue is no longer occuring, however you may still see the duplicated title in old save files.
  • Battling at Flayed Rock gives a land map rather than a major settlement map.
    This is by design. This settlement has Ogres as a cultural originator meaning it will never have walls or become a walled settlement.
  • Players in South Africa and EU experiencing an error when accessing the Multiplayer Lobby.
    This issue is no longer being encountered. If you still experience issues please let us know via the support forums.
  • Last defenders quest battle times out when an army fails to spawn in.
    We have been unable to replicate this and have deemed it fixed. If you are still encountering this issue, please let us know via the support forums.
  • Some players are unable to type non-English characters in the game
    Please follow next steps: 1) Run game in the language you are intending to use in the game 2) Run game in borderless window.
  • Changed game settings are not saved, if player is leaving the game without properly closing it
    This is not a bug and is working as intended.
  • Some Norsca Monster Hunts not working correctly.
    This was investigated and cannot be reproduced. Please disable any mods you have running and try again. If you continue to encounter issues on vanilla please report to Support Forums.

FIXED

Fixed in 4.0
  • Chaos Dwarf Lords with Great Taurus Mounts are susceptible to falling off walls.
  • Some characters get more skill points than there are skills to invest them in.
    (Note: Excess notifications fixed in 4.0, updates to characters with less than 50 skill points planned)
  • FPS drop on Cathay's Terrace farming/field maps.
    (Note: Improvements have been made but investigations into reports of performance issues continue)
  • Harald Hammerstorm can unlock "Indomitable" skill but is already Unbreakable.
  • When confederating Bretonnian factions, upkeep for questing Knights goes to 0 if Lord has Knights Vow.
  • Complications with Ariel spawning if you are beaten to rebirth by another Wood Elf faction.
  • Repanse is missing her unique mount model (Suleman).
  • Some of Harry the Hammer's abilities show placeholder text.
  • Snotling Pump Wagons do oversized damaged.
  • New Regiments of Renown units don't have unit caps.
  • Nakai can't recruit Kroxigors and other units.
  • Damsel's progression for vows is not advancing as intended.
  • Von Carstein Blade not being rewarded to caravans finishing at Castle Drakenhof.
  • Bloated corpses exploding randomly at the start of battles.
  • Free Company no longer appear to have their weapons in combat.
  • Crone Hellebron Death Night missions not triggering.
  • In Domination battles, units with both Frenzy and Unbreakable lose Frenzy when summoned as reinforcements.
  • Heroes can get stuck in an attacking army and cannot move.
  • When defending, Zharr-Naggrund wall towers are not controllable and do not fire.
  • Gatehouses on Zharr-Naggrund can be attacked, leading to units being crushed.
  • Ungrim’s ability “Journey’s End” not working.
  • Ranged battle AI is sometimes passive.
  • Thorek Ironbrow appears distorted in battle.
  • Units on Zhufbar map appear to be floating.
  • Soft lock when using the Hellforge tutorial.
  • Skinning issues with Centigor units.
  • “Support Religious Errantry” not working for Bretonnians.
  • Various technology tree oversights.
  • Champions of Chaos cannot upgrade Daemons using Warband Upgrades.
  • Throgg is not immune to Kislev Winter and Yvresse Mist attrition.
  • Teal visual effect on Glade Captain's bow disappears when she is firing.
  • AI moves just outside of player range.
  • Ambush battles do not properly start with army full of stalk units as AI cannot attack them.
  • Sometimes ranged units begin running into melee after running out of ammo with Guard mode on.

Fixed in 3.1
  • AI melee units appear to switch targets in combat, causing them to remain idle and lose.
  • Chaos Dwarf artillery units cannot manually select where to fire.
  • All rites available on first turn of campaign.
  • Ariel does not spawn after completing Ritual of Rebirth. (Please note: we are investigating some additional issues relating to Ariel and confederation.)
  • All chariot casters, Ikit, Wulfrick and Slann lords get stuck firing when using a magic missile ability.
  • Drycha's quest battle "Coeddil Unchained" softlocking on a black screen.
  • Skinning issues with some Beastmen units (Chaos Spawn, Ungors).
  • Daemonsmith Sorcerers on Lammasu are holding their axe the wrong way.
  • Army cap can be exceeded when using ‘Save Lord’ as Tomb Kings.
  • “Tomb of Khengai” gives 100 armour piercing damage instead of 5 when damaged.
  • Survival multiplayer battle AI limited to 20 units.
  • Frost Maiden (Ice) uses Goblin artwork in unit card.
  • Event notifications delayed or not showing.
  • Confederated Chaos Dwarf Legendary Lords can die in battle.
  • Eltharion’s Lair does not account for Chaos Dwarf prisoners.
  • Some skills (e.g Striking Branches, Sneaky Stabberz) are using wrong unit sets.
  • Cursor appears too large and sometimes blurry.
  • Skinning issues with Chaos Dwarfs causing teeth and lips to stretch out.
  • Gotrek's healing ability "Heroic Fortitude" is not working.
  • Witch Hunters no longer appear to have their weapon in combat.
  • Forbidden Library for Vampire Counts doesn't currently provide necromancer unit in garrison.
  • Sisters of Averlorn missing their swords.
  • Doomfire Warlocks missing their swords.
  • Cold one riders/knights feel underwhelming.
  • Vampire Coast Legendary Lords can't move while in ambush stance.
  • Capstone of Tepok does not demolish when a new one is built.
  • New campaigns selection screen defaults to race selection rather than Reikland/Zhao Ming.
  • “Careful Casting” skill gives Lore of Metal free spells.
  • Lord Kroak does not spawn after completing his quest battle.

Fixed in 3.0.1
  • Campaign map performance affected by 3D UI.
  • Performance issues when using CPU with different core types.
  • Game can crash when spending character skill points.

Fixed in 3.0
  • Azhag loses his items in custom battles when mounted.
  • Brightstone Mine is missing from Mount Gunbad for Skaven factions.
  • Grimgors skin tone is too light.
  • Shield block chance values in UI are not always consistent.
  • Ranged units don't shoot at targets that are in line of sight.
  • UI states demolishing buildings costs money.
  • Items that reduce miscast chance may not be functioning.
  • A darklands chokepoint map should have clearer indication of which terrain is impassable.
  • "Feral Manticores" are not buffed by red line skills.
  • Some daemon prince Daemonic Gifts have identical values.

Fixed in 2.4
  • Sometimes garrisons may enter battles as reinforcements.
  • Army doesn't spawn in Tyrions Sunfang quest.
  • Karak-Eight-Peaks becomes a 6 slot settlement when owned by Skaven.

Fixed in 2.3
  • Drycha cannot recruit Coeddil.
  • Great Unclean Ones are underperforming.
  • Landmark buildings present in ME aren't all represented in IE.
  • The AI can pre-empt and dodge artillery strikes.
  • Isabella von Carstein does not provide blood kiss's when assassinating characters.
  • Bretonnian knights do not have unique heraldry.

Fixed in Hotfix 2.2.1
  • Spells that can heal units and restore dead entities sometimes restore to max health, and reset heal cap.

Fixed in 2.2
  • End-turn crashes
  • Regeneration makes some characters overpowered
  • Grudges take a long time to complete, forcing high Severity levels early on.
  • Many Kislev lands start owned by Norsca- meaning core Kislev areas look and function like Norscan camps
  • 'Ghost factions' being created from vassals
  • Some major settlements have limited garrisons
  • Reikland campaign is very difficult
  • Miao Ying can cast all spells in dragon form in campaign
  • Morathi gets penalties from her own corruption type
  • Normal campaign difficulty appears to be more challenging than Hard/Very Hard
  • Nakai is too big for his details page
  • Boris' tech tree is difficult to complete due to some restrictions
  • Heart of Averlorn quest can have progression blocked.
  • Gor-Rok quests not advancing despite fulfilling requirements
  • Sword of Lyonesse quest battle cannot be completed.
  • Fall of Man Quest battle cannot be completed.
  • Some Legendary Lords have redundant effects on their unique equipment
  • Early game Visions of the Old Ones spawning impossibly hard armies
  • Threaten causes the game to crash in multiplayer campaigns
  • Beastmen building tooltips are unclear
  • Talisman of Hoeth quest has incorrect enemy spawning
  • Unable to summon the dragon after completing the sisters of Twilight quest battle
  • Some clan Moulder flesh lab upgrades don’t apply to units
  • Alith Anar doesn’t reduce upkeep for shadow warriors
  • Daemon prince post battle captive options require more balance in the late game
  • The Pestilent Scheme rite doesn't work.
  • Wulfhart quest to search ruins does not progress upon completion.
  • Eltharion's starting lord doesn't have a trait.
  • Too many settlement battles.
  • A vampire count map allows reinforcements within the city.

Fixed in 2.1
  • Long end turn times
  • The decorations on the walls of Slaaneshi settlements block damage from artillery fire
  • Anti-player bias in campaign AI targeting

Fixed in 2.0.0
  • Devolve spell incorrectly damages units instead of just debuffing them.
  • Monogod Daemon factions do not get human aligned units.
  • The unholy manifestation “Scriveners of Insanity” does not inform the player the target army must be in hostile territory.
  • Poor AI performance in siege battles.
  • Anti-aliasing issues that make the graphics appear blurry and give models a grainy halo effect.
  • Greasus cannot use tyrant specific ancillaries.
  • Factions that have been dominated by Slaanesh are able to declare war on their master.
  • Plaguebearers are not affected by Melee Defence buffs on red-line skill tree.
  • Boris faction effect, that reduces religion and garrison buildings cost is not working.
  • Battle Harmony range description not updated in localised text.
  • Missing localisation text for skill "Stone Gaze".
  • The Grand Cathay technologies ‘Enhanced Yang Sight’ and ‘Harmonic Mastery’ are not applying the movement range buff.
  • Saved characters cannot be recruited in Ogre camp.
  • Ability to cancel into video.
  • Some maps allow reinforcements to arrive right next to capture points.
  • Game crashes when loading saved characters with non-English system username.
  • Abundance of red in the UI.
  • Unit stuck on corpse of large model units in battle
  • Duplicate achievements in Steam

Fixed in hotfix 1.3.1
  • Ranged units have larger than intended buff.

Fixed in Update 1.3
  • Ironguts have issues fighting melee infantry 1v1
  • The final battle is time consuming and difficult
  • The Ogre contract mechanic is not as rewarding to players
  • An interception when the AI enters the forge of souls should be more clear
  • Units who now only cast bound spells have obsolete passive abilities.
  • Cathay technology update to Dragon Fleet Aegis and Sea Dragon’s Edict only benefits Zhao Ming
  • Units are sometimes unresponsive and can struggle to follow commands.
  • The AI can use the Changing of the Ways mechanic too frequently.
  • Unit pathfinding routes can be suboptimal in some battle maps.
  • Non-Cathay factions occupying the Great Bastion are unable to prevent Kurgan Warband armies from spawning on the map.
  • When loading a save Ataman buffs will not apply until the player has ended their turn.
  • In some instances ranged units will not fire despite having line of sight.
  • Tzeentch’s realm can be very frustrating.
  • Miao Ying’s dragon form augments are not applying in battles.
  • Tzeentch and Slaanesh have less replenishment options than other factions.
  • The AI can use army abilities in situations where it shouldn’t be able to.
  • Formation Attack can make some of Grand Cathay’s units perform worse in combat.
  • Burning Chariot of Tzeentch is unable to use ranged attacks if teleported and summoned in a domination battle.
  • The AI still interacts with rifts after the player has completed the final battle.
  • Tzeentch Army ability: "Arcane Surge" has no effect.
  • If borrowing any army that was in the “Use Underway” stance, the player will be unable to move them.
  • Large unit sync animations are not working in battle
  • FPS drops, audio stuttering on campaign map when hovering mouse over certain UI
  • Single entity units can become unresponsive and will not perform attacks.
  • Traits are less impactful than in Warhammer 2.
  • Player loses campaign after winning the final battle, if the AI finishes the campaign in the same turn during the end of turn.
  • Missed Formation Attack buff in 1.3.
  • Certain Units who now only cast bound spells have obsolete passive abilities.
  • Performance issues based on the number of mods installed.
  • Issues with unit mass allows heavier units to plough through front lines.

Fixed in Update 1.2 and hot fixes
  • Boris’ “As One with Ursun” skill provides a negative leadership penalty to the player.
  • Erengrad’s landmark building chain has the incorrect landmark and cannot be deconstructed.
  • The AI heavily relies on instant attrition to starve out player settlements, making defensive sieges rarer for the player.
  • Anti-player bias: the AI will prioritise attacking the player above hostile AI factions.
  • Daemon factions automatically declare war on any non-Chaos Slaanesh vassals.
  • Lord characters on the map will twitch if the player chooses not to engage an ambush battle during the end of turn.
  • Some of the lower ranked ancillaries provide better buffs than higher rarity items.
  • Players can get stuck inside the chaos realms- most notably in Slaanesh’s realm.
  • Khorne's Glare manifestation can sometimes cause your capital to be instantly destroyed.
  • Soporific Musk of Slaanesh does not apply on Spawn of Slaanesh.
  • Flying units can sometimes get stuck when trying to attack ground units.
  • Settlements in The Grand Bastion don’t apply their local army buffs to embedded armies.
  • Characters are able to get the trait: ‘Hates [own faction]’.
  • The technology ‘Improved Winches’ has no effect on Jade Crossbowmen.
  • The Khorne technology ‘Dog Fighting’ still unlocks vanguard deployment for all units.
  • Grand Cathay have a technology that provides +25% port income despite there not immediate access to any ports.
  • Daemon Prince gets a generic ‘confederate’ mission despite not having a faction to confederate.
  • Vassals do not provide the player with campaign line of sight.
  • Lords of Change are unable to gain experience points.
  • Slaanesh landmark ‘The Vale of Creatures’ provides increased unit rank on recruitment buff, which does not work on global recruitment.
  • Exalted Bloodthirsters with the Immortality skill are not visible in the recruitment pool after being wounded.
  • When using Changing of the Ways to either Transfer Settlement or Break Alliance the number of grimoires needed to perform the action shows an incorrect value.
  • Some defensive towers become worse at higher tiers.
  • Players are unable to unlock Greater Daemon units when playing as the Daemon Prince.
  • Miao Ying's faction buff to ranged units has no effect on Iron Hail Gunners and Crane Gunners.
  • Global recruitment time reduction does not apply correctly for Legion of Chaos.
  • AI rebuilds towers very quickly and doesn't have same restrictions as the player.
  • Artillery units are unable to man artillery after routing and regaining leadership.
  • Higher quality units are disproportionately affected by autoresolve.
  • Snow maps appear too bright.
  • Players are unable to load save file if a mod is missing.
  • The event to upgrade Heralds to Exalted Daemons will not trigger.
  • Slaanesh unable to subjugate playable factions.
  • Technology trees are not as impactful as in Warhammer II.
  • Auto-resolve can result in disproportionately excessive losses for the player’s army.
  • Audio “Crunching” or “Stuttering” issues

Fixed in Update 1.1 and hot fixes
  • Game crashes when using Alt-Tab.
  • “Supply Lines” does not properly reduce the cost of unit upkeep when disbanding lords.
  • Soft-locks that block progress (unable to move LL)
  • Soft-lock at the battle for Dervingard.
  • Game Pass users may require 20+ minutes to load the game.
  • Skarbrand glows green in battles.
  • Buttons and menus cut off on ultrawide monitors.
  • Blackscreen / crashes when entering a battle or the campaign map on launch.
  • Running the game for the first time in offline mode prevents access to the Ogre Kingdom race pack.
  • Players may encounter message “You appear to be offline” when logging into Steam.
  • Boris Ursun cannot be unlocked.
  • Terrain doesn’t fully load / If this issue reoccurs, please – verify your game files.
  • Daemon Prince model animation transition issues.
  • Some players are unable to teleport to the Forge of Souls to intercept the AI.

definitely noticed this. Units just rarely make an attack when they are chasing something now. They just run inside the enemy unit and everybody runs along side of each other. Super noticeable with dog units, sometimes more than half the entities will be running in front of the enemy unit they're chasing since they're faster. Remember getting 600-1000 kills against mostly clan rats/skavenslave armies with dog units was common in WH2, now it's like 150-300. Even if chasing routing units with fast infantry remains bad (it's never been great), dogs and light cav need some of their chasing power back.

This concern the faction : Demons of chaos
This concern the pve : immortal empire

When you rigth-click on a unit (to get futher information), you get the list of every unit your roster can get, but not really !
Actually, the faction Demon of Chaos only got the demons listed in their roster, even if they can recruit mortals units.

For exmple, the following units are missing :
-Marauder of Khorne
-Marauder of Tzeench
-Devoted Marauder of Slaanesh
-Marauder of Nurgle
-Chaos Warrior of Khorne

Please can you add the mortals unitn with are present in the roster, appears in the roster ?

Im not sure if it's a bug, but magic weapon "Sword of the Hornet" doesn't appear to enable fusing with other weapons or Salvaging

The Ecstatic Legion can't seduce other factions in the diplomacy menu. Also Daemonettes can't be upgraded it says they need "The Last Secret" researched but there's no such tech in Azazel's tech tree.

Bloodthirster Regiment of Renown Bloody Fist has something wrong with textures of wings when seen from certain distance.

I have newest drivers (although it were happening also on 2 months older drivers too).

Problem is exclusive to default colour scheme as black colour scheme which I can use in AI Battles / Multiplayer if I choose right subfaction doesnt have this graphical error.

The biggest one (and missing on this list) is by far the 3d UI causing heavy lag, especially on longer games of Immortal Empires.

Moving around the map, especially from the strategic view, will cause a huge drop in framerate. If you disable the 3d UI before doing so, there is zero affect on framerate.

I suspect this is causing a crashing issue for me. When I am allocating skill points, the game will often crash. This seems to be due to the fact that the camera will zoom to the character in question in the background when you are selecting between them. This is causing a huge strain on my system due to the above and crashing the game when I'm selecting skills.

Retired Demonsmith trait for Convoy masters gives a unit of Bull Centaur Great Weapons not a Bull Centaur Taur'uk like the trait says it does.

[NEW] Ranged battle AI is sometimes passive

I was wondering why the AI doesn't seem to want to pummel me with artillery on the march anymore

That's quite a list, I noticed a bunch from the list while I played.
These are especially common and major issues:
- Event notifications delayed or not showing
- Game can crash when spending character skill points
Also a minor one, but it happens sometimes, don't know anyone noticed:
Chasing down a Hero/Lord with a much faster Lord (on mount) results in just running behind it across the whole map, need to manually click away and attack again to do one attack.

Grom's starting settlement Massif Orcal being shrunk down from a 10-slot to an 8-slot settlement similar to Sartosa and Gaean Vale before is still not on this list. Please fix that.
I've reported this bug since before 2.4 and it's massively putting me off playing a campaign as him.

The hitboxes on the bull-centaurs are bugged, ranged units cannot hit them properly, please address this issue.

In multiplayer campaigns, if you play as dark elves, your armies will lose loyalty when you ally fights a battle manually on the map, even when they win.
