Using hints in SCOUT's Memories

Are there any penalties to using the advanced hints when solving SCOUT's memories? Since they don't really give you points, I guess not, but I have not dared try it even though i have become stuck a couple of times and had to erase the whole board when just a single mistake (probably) away from the solution.

There is no scoring, so nothing to lower.
Also, there seem to be unsolvable ones... at least even when I checked it through nonogram solvers, 3-3 came up as "mathematically impossible"/"multiple solutions", so you'd need the random box filling help anyway.
