Very subjective word man, haha
Where did you see that, would be awesome if that's the case, thanks.
If you mean different units in general (like archers, monks, knights, etc) I don't think it's been revealed.
It's probably best to wait and revise a wiki after launch since it will most likely list every unit for each "faction" and probably enemies too. So far there's not much info aviable.
You can get a short glimpse of combat and some units here: https://twitter.com/KingsBountyGame/status/1426214259411795971
I'll probably take a chance and pre-order it, I'm hoping this game is much better than some of the previews indicated. Thanks for the info, greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, that's great to hear.
I had the same though, I really hope that's not the case.
Human - Spear, Dogs?, Bow, Priest, Cavalry, Knight, Inquisitor, Paladin. = 8. (Older games had 8, I think Peasants are replaced by Dogs in this one)
Factions - Human, Bandit/Pirate, Orc, Dwarf, Elf, Nature, Undead, Demon, Elemental (fire/air), Elemental (earth/water) = 10.
= 70 different units without any trouble.
That's quite possible. Heroes of M&M have shown every single unit before the release of the game. As a matter of fact, they had a website that uploaded the art and details of every faction and every unit as they finished them during developement (at least that was the case for Heroes VII).
With older versions you mean the previous games? If that's what you mean that's not very likely since the engine is new, the developers are also new (the old ones parted ways with the company) and they stated that, in this game, it will all be more focused on humans, constructs and undead while in the older games you had plants, elves, dark elves, dragons, cyclops, dwarfs, machines, beasts, monsters, orcs, demons.... So it's going to be more limited in terms of variety (so I wouldn't be surprised that it'd be 5 units for each of the 4 "factions" and each unit with 3 versions of it). I'm not saying that's the case I'm just assuming.
See this for the unit upgrade hint https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1135300/view/2551781193321079162

If the dev divided the appearance and ability changes by level into different units,
it would be a complete scam.
As they say, there are 70+ units, regardless of the unit level.
They announced over 75 units and turned out you had two base units that branched into different upgrades.
You had men and you had women. Each with their own tree (see https://www.pcinvasion.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Fantasy-General-2-guide-best-units-guide-upgrades-armored-skirmisher-750x422.jpg for reference). Then, along the way, you could make a few alliances or recruit some special units that didn't evolve. Like you could recruit trolls with a much smaller evolve tree and wolves which had no evolve tree and actually once you lost that unit it was gone because there was no way to recruit them, they'd just join you in specific quests.
Then they released DLC which brought more units obviously, like the lizard folk.
Although we're gonna see what's the case soon, hehe.
I hope I'm wrong but this "scam" is a tendency in strategy games lately. Cut content, reduced factions and unit variety, etc. Fantasy General II was an example but Spellforce III did the same. They cut the number of factions and then released some more in DLC.
The only game that didn't disappoint me in that regard was Heroes of M&M VII which had more units than ever. But it's from 2015.
