Weird and Wry, I appreciate the response, but my experimentation shows that the actual limit is 100m for a track segment to branch successfully. The math seems to be that the "branch length" is 1/10th of the parent length, and the "branch length" must be at least 10m.

This is a big problem with trams, esp. in dense urban areas where you are trying to follow the street pattern. It seems unnecessary as trams have very tight turning radius and don't mind if there are curves just before or after a branch.
I could probably live with it if you did knock the limit back down to 30m. There are lots of situations where 100m is just not desirable and sometimes not even possible
a diamond crosse would be a huge improvement, could we also get a street junction for tram track.
