Tips for a new player: DO NOT DUMP YOUR 1ST GUN
Whatever you do, DO NOT DUMP YOUR 1ST GUN!

If you dump your gun, and have some thing you 1st think is better (Like me), its going to bit you in the balls with its needed ammo. (Like me)

@Doug, the first rifle gun that you get it uses cheap ammo as also your first 2 pistols. Then after you start crafting guns for the first time, most of them would be guns that use cheap ammo too.

Or do you mean that you are using a new gun that "eats" cheap ammo so fast that you don't have the time to craft lots of cheap ammo?

I have dumped (put it in Vault just in case that my other new weapons get destroyed when condition drops to 0) my starting rifle and pistols as soon as I was able to craft better guns from my first weapon schematics that I got because they do better ballistic damage and can add a couple more ammo in the weapons.

@astrea, I think he means the guns that use different ammunition types. Like light pistol/medium pistol/heavy pistol or light rifle/medium rifle/heavy rifle ammunition.

Ah okay, thanks Legitimate.

Yeah, I got a super gun that I was thinking used cheap, now I'm trying to make aother gun or the Hev pistol ammo

Ah okay Doug, well, I did sell on of my rifles that uses cheap ammo in AH for someone who wanted to get it for his friend (I hope that you are his friend ^_^) but yeah, better go for another gun that uses cheap ammo as Heavy ammo are expensive either to buy and/or craft.

On second thought, I think I do have saved my 2 started pistols (and 1 better level pistol than the starter) and my started rifle if in case you need it.

I suggest crafting or buying the Snipershot slugthrower. It's the best slugthrower in the game, uses cheap ammo and you can use this even when you reach sector 2! Sector 1 would be a breeze for you if you have the Snipershot slugthrower.

I steadily worked towards making the best BB rifle (Snipershot Slugthrower) and that sustained me for ages until I managed to hoard a ton of ammo for a proper rifle.

Plus, it's not that hard to make ammo for rifles. Work on getting Science up to 45, then spend an hour here and there, gathering the materials you need and you'll have loads of it. Even early on. I only had the Scoped TempestTech SG-42 (so I wasn't even high level at the time) which uses Medium Ammo. This is very easy to get components for.

1x Medium Gunpowder (Science 45, 2x Geo-Chem + 1x Bio-Chem)
5x Scrap Copper
5x Scrap Lead
2x Scrap Steel

All of which you can gather or make yourself. Couldn't really comment on Auction House prices, as it's been a couple of years since I played last.

Just spend a good amount of time scavenging early on (which you should always do anyway, at every safe opportunity) then stash it in your vault. You'll be surprised, it doesn't take that long to horde a nice amount of each. But if you can't be bothered to gather materials, you're probably playing the wrong game.

Some good areas for gathering:
Any starting area is typically surrounded by Scrap Copper nodes.
South of Odenville for Copper, Lead, Steel. Has a nice mix of various nodes.
In the Odenville Mine (south of Odenville), Diggers drop a material which can be substituted as Bio-Chem, I think it was Digger Sample or something like that. Also there are some nodes scattered about inside.
Oilville, there are a bunch of Geo-Chem deposit nodes near the town. A bit of a trek at first, but not once the Fast Travel Terminal has been unlocked. Can be a popular place to gather, so you may find some competition. But still managed to gain a steady amount.
Bio-Chem can be harvested quite easily by using killing Rats, west of South Burb. Nature 30 required to harvest after killing.

Hope that helps.
