what is keeping this game alive? people testify that theres only 20 total people playing when they log in. they cant possibly justify making enough money to keep the server open so why. why when so many other great mmos have been completely shut down does this one still stand (barely from what i hear too. people say you get a max of around 3 hours decent playtime after the servers been restarted before it gets too laggy to even move gear around. so why pray tell is this entirely dead game that barely even works when the servers ARE UP, why is this game still in existence.

someone has interest (money gain) in keeping it alive.
just like most things in this world, if money can be made it exists.

in this particular case i am not sure,

the same (current)publisher keeps APB Reloaded alive
a game with global max around 500 players active at any given time.
i asked a game hack developer about creating apb reloaded hacks and they even think it is not worth it money-wise, that is why it doesn't exist at major hack providers while in the past APB Reloaded hacks were sold at all major game hack providers.

I think they brought the game back on to play until the launch of the reboot

its just completely insane to me that this survives with less than 10 people at any given moment, yet theres mmos that got shutdown and literally 10s of thousands of people are complaining and begging to get it back for years. it actually makes no sense just in general, i suppose its probably pretty clear if i knew all the specifics of every canceled and revived game though. thats a job for someone alot more redditor than me

This is a relatively older MMO. Maybe from around 2006 or so? I suspect the server costs aren't so high because it's a smaller game than more modern stuff.

It was designed in the late 90's actually, and used to market the Icarus MMO engine in 2006=09. The game was just for marketing the engine and was never actually finished.

Your question was addressed to Little Orbit. Only they know this.

the game is not as bad as it seems, the gameplay, is the same, as any other similar mmorpg and some people like post-apocalyptic, more than fantasy, or anime. so why not?
maybe the people, who own the game, also like to play it, too.

The game is fun. Always was. It has (for its time) new, unique mechanics. So it developed a following. After shutdown and subsequent restart that following doesn't play much, but we watch the discussions and wander about here waiting.

This server is a promise from Little Orbit that they are still working on the reboot. A tiny cost when you think of it as marketing expense to have a small but hungry fan base waiting to give release stats a boost.

I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

i thought youd never ask. wildstar, free realms, millberrygames.com XD. no i dont have an actual list lol. wildstar and free realms are my best personal examples. but there are many more mmos that have been shutdown for a slew of reasons that had nothing to do with gameplay or popularity

people still post in wildstar on steam, theyve tried petitioning several times to get it back but thats just a fever dream, there is a small team of coders working on reverse engineering the game in the hopes to get it back to its previous state just before it was shutdown but that will likely take 10+ years and to be realistic most of the coders who work on it will likely die or give up before then... this sent me on a bit of an mmo soul search, digging up old mmos and survival games that have been shutdown like nether or h1z1, and then finding that games like this can exist with just 10 people really erks me. and thats in no way a stab at fallen earth i quite like this game and it was one of the first free to play games i ever tried. its just like, if we can have this why cant we have all the other old games we used to know and love :(

The others are private servers:

Warhammer Online
City of Heroes
Hellgate London

Vanguard Saga of Heroes
Star Wars Galaxies

Hellgate: London should have been so good; it was a lot of fun until you got to where enemies respawned before you could finish a level and it became obvious just how pointless the grind was.
