Also their game support list is umm... 'interesting'...
Should of went with EAC over SARDS if you're going to force people to use a kernel level anti-cheat.
The games that use this anti cheat are games that i don't know anything about, except for silkroad online which i used to play when i was still a kid.. Haven't played it in forever either, i've only seen some claims about it being dead by now and the remaining players in the game being mostly bots.. Which is something i can't confirm...
Anyway, idk about this anti cheat... And this is coming from someone who has nprotect gameguard running on his pc, which is supposed to be sketchy as well... And yes, i get that loads of stuff are also rootkits such as windows itself..
Maybe that i'm just overthinking it and that this SARD anti cheat is alright.. They do state on their website that they are not collecting personal data, but i would also put such a thing on my own website if i had one.. Just because the people behind it say so on their website doesn't mean i trust them on their word for it...
I asked earlier today, that if someone were to have experience regarding this anti cheat that i would appriciate it if they can share that same experience...
EAC is only alright if you use a paid version of it, which is expensive.. APB used to have this in the past, the downside is that it was also triggering false bans... At some point they moved away from it and went with a free version instead, which is why the cheating has become as bad as it is these days...
But no matter what, not a single anti cheat out there will ever completely stop cheating issues... People will always find a way to bypass it sooner or later..
Unironically the most sensible person talking about Anti-cheat i've ever seen.
Short version of the math and rant below: Human Moderation doesn't work, Anticheat doesn't work, so if you're going to complain about ANY solution... what do you think should be the RIGHT solution?
Ultimately it's a do we do nothing and accept that cheaters exist? Or do we make it as hard as we can?
Because simply put... the problem is a REAL issue for F2P like APB is...
You can buy a cheat program, make an account, log in, play, get banned, make a new account, get banned... How is an anticheat supposed to stop cheating when the 'solution' is to ban them from a free account that can be created using Gmail or other free emails with unlimited possible accounts?
IP bans would be better, but even that is rather easily bypassed.
VPNs would prevent an IP ban typically cause you can just get a new IP and account then.
The only difference between APB now and APB in 2016 is player count. Back in the day when we had a few thousand players and a couple hundred employees working on the game it was near impossible to stop them manually. G1 had (if I recall) about 100 to 200 employees. Say it was 200... actually 300... and say 1/4 of them worked on solving tickets in 2016 and manually removed cheaters. If we had about 3000 steam users, so we'll say 4000 total pc players. If 1/4 of those player submitted a ticket per day you'd have 1000 meant to be looked over by 100 employees. Typical support tickets take 1 hour to resolve, meaning in a 12 hour day 1 employee can do 12 tickets. 12 tickets per employee, per day means 1200 tickets could be resolved.
so 1000 distributed, 1200 handled... seems like it would work huh? Well back in 2016 G1 had Fallen Earth too... which had about 1000 players. So 1250 tickets.
NOW this is assuming that G1 had 400 employees and 1/4 of them did tickets. When in reality they had closer to 250 and maybe 30 of them did tickets. So 30x12 = 360 per day. It would take around 4 days for them to answer 1 days worth of tickets.
Human moderation can't stop cheaters... and even if it did have the manpower to ban ALL cheaters... they would still just make new accounts the second they got banned.
Now Little Orbit COULD use all of it's manpower to do tickets but... this falls into the it's a free game issue too.... you can't stop a never ending tide of cheaters who can make unlimited accounts.
So since Humans don't work, and anticheat doesn't work... what should the solution be?
I see so many people whining about this solution or that solution... but they never bring up the RIGHT solution that they think exists.
There is no solution. Game Devs vs Cheaters is a battle of attrition. A cheat dev can make 5 cheats for 5 games and that means he has to combat 5 programs. Meanwhile a development team has to combat dozens of cheaters who all use different codes to exploit the same bugs. You fix cheat 1, 2, and 3 but cheats 4 and 5 still work. So you fix 4 and 5, and by the time you fix those 2 and 3 work again, fix those? 1 and 5 work again.
It's never ending.
The only real solution is so invasive I can't actually support it.... do what Korea does... link gaming accounts to players Social Sec numbers. You get 1 account per game. This would solve the issue (atleast mostly)... except it's highly invasive and I can't in good faith ACTUALLY say this is the correct fix... just because a nuke works to eliminate a traffic jam doesn't mean it's the right answer to fixing the issue.
I dont know. just my thoughts. either way, im downloading it again so i hope to see you all in game.
Although I am done with online games in general, in part for reasons you have mentioned, I might check it out too if they keep doing what they are doing now.
Make the game paid ?
Please just throw your computer out the window and go back to playing with toys.
I was just trying to imagine what would be an appropriate measure if they were to actually to remove the anti-cheat, it is not a suggestion.
Why u mad?
