Hidden Program running background.
I had a huge internet speed drop so i checked my task manager and i realized that some unknown program is running atm. i deleted them (2 .exe files and one log file) and moved on.Just now, after i couldn't get to play the game i did some research and find out it was "Punkbuster" program. Why was it still running while i was closed the game a few hours ago? it looked a bit tricky so i wanted to ask you guys.
P.S=i verify the game cache via steam and downloading ~340 mb now.i deleted 3 file and it costs me 340 mb? really? lol

I suggest you stop deleting programs and files from your computer.
I also suggest you use the Gamersfirst game launcher for APB Reloaded to patch your game in the future.
I further suggest that you do not do anything to punkbuster on your PC.

this is because punkbuster is legal malware. it sucks up your system resources and bandwidth 24/7 for who knows what reasons, even if you aren't running the game.

hell, when you uninstall APB:R, punkbuster is left on your system, and it still sucks up system resources and bandwidth. shît is sketch as hell.

If you have a computer that can't handle PB running silently in your background while you surf the web i suggest you stop playing online games in general.

it doesn't matter how much system resources it's using, nor if that noticeably impacts the user's system in any way. it is simply unacceptable for it to do so when you aren't using the program it is installed for (in this case, APB:R).

Pinkbuster is used for many games, it's ignorant to think it is only used for APB. In the case you are not utilizing PB, it is usually set in idle mode and act as it was turned off.

you should re-read what i wrote, i never said it's only used for APB:R. also, the point is that it doesn't idle, and you're a naive fool if you actually think it does.

Set the punkbuster service A and B to manual in services. Problem solved.

we the consumers shouldn't have to fix their services for them. if it was a bug or something, sure... but it's not, because as i've said, PB is literally malware.

it's not about my pc can or can't handle punkbuster. It MUST NOT RUN while i'm not playing APB:Reloaded.Their "so-called" anti-cheat program is running all the time and it bothers me.

No it is not. DO you even know what Malware is? Malware is software that is intended to damage or disable computers and computer systems.

Did PB damage or disable your computer? Nope, Hell it doesn't even consume more than 5mb of ram on your system. Stop your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and move on.

I doubt you hit a nerve. You are simply ignoring the fact that the punkbuster services (Both A and B) perform no disc reads or writes, require no CPU cycles, perform no uploading or downloading and will use at the most 15 Megabytes Maximum ( combined ) of your memory when not in use.
It's one of the most well behaved background services you could have installed on your machine.
In 4 Solid days of PC uptime ( with many hours of playing APB in those days ) "punkbuster A" has used 2 seconds of my PCs computation time on ONE of the 16 cores.
It has paged my harddrive 4249 times.

Compaire that to Steam which has been running for about 40 minutes.
Has used 1 minute 23 seconds of CPU computation time.
Has performed 27,743,989 pagings of the hardrive and counting.
Has downloaded 357 MB of data.
Is currently useing 137 MB of my memory.

you mean compare a program that might as well just be a runtime script, to a fully featured online storefront, gaming management frontend (that handles a multitude of tasks at any given time), cloudshare platform, and multimedia center core utility?

yea, totally a fair comprison.

I made the compairison based on the premise: no one complains about Steam turning their computer into an unuseable slug when it is on.
If steam, which pulls far more resources from your computer than little ol Punkbuster, doesn't cause you grief when it's setting idly in the background then you have no argument when you look at what punkbuster does when it is setting idly in the background.

i'll take 'what is a virus?' for $500, alex.

i'm done responding to you about this, as you are clearly going to just blindly defend PB, despite it being proven on a multitude of occasions over the years that you are wrong. i have no idea how you fanboys can do what you do, but it's always hilarious to see.
