Space Engineers 2

Space Engineers 2

Survival mode
Space Engineers 2 will just fade away without proper survival mechanics. I know its just a sandbox building game but it has huge potential if it evolves into something more than just that. Unfortunately looking at SE1 you can tell that Keen will only add survival just to sell more copies while at the same time never improving or adding anything substantial to its aspects, so i dont believe this game will ever be anything more than just a copy of the first game with QoL improvements and build limits.

Well SE1 was never actually meant to have survival or even planets as matter of fact. This is designed on a better engine from a fresh start. Chances are we could get better survival since its in the road map early on. The original was initially just legos in space that grew to be massively popular.

When will it be in the game? That's the part I'm waiting for to buy the game.

Probably not for quite a while, we're still pretty deep in alpha territory. Keen hasn't been giving roadmap target dates and has been pretty open about how the timeline is in flux at the best of times.

Hi, since the game is in making I recommend to keep an eye in the "News" link on top of the Forum because that is where they share their progress.

They shared the "Why and what" will be SE2 once completed in Marek's Dev Diary, Friday Livestream :

" Why SE2?
We’re building SE2 because we believe in the dream of the ultimate space-sim - one that goes beyond anything seen before. We want a game where engineering, survival, and combat truly matter, where every action has weight, and where players can shape their own destiny in a vast, living universe.

SE1 was just the beginning. SE2 is our chance to push the boundaries - to create the space game we've always wanted to play. A game where players build, explore, and fight for survival and the colonization of Almagest, a raw and untamed frontier filled with danger and opportunity.

This isn’t just a sequel. It’s our vision for the future of space simulation - a world where creativity, skill, and ambition define your fate. "

I don't like clicking on links or watching devs live. Because I don't get anything out of it because I want to play the game in survival. And for this price it's not worth it when it's not in the game.

No problem, I was just sharing the information about what is going with the making of the game.

Note
In case some don't know me I must specifiy :

-> I am not a SE Dev but forum Moderator community helper/game tester and very active player, I also help the SE community since 2013 because it's my Favorite Sandbox game on Steam, and they gave me the [Dev] Tag so I can be admin of the Workshop to help more

+ about -> When the survival will be ready ?

In my opinion, reading all the information the SE2 Team shared with the community, I'll say 9 months for the survival to be ready

I am pretty much the exact opposite.
I like non-violent survival modes like dealing with hunger etc.

Thankfully over the past decade there have been, really for the first time ever, games that are highly engaging that are NOT focused on violence such as Stationeers and KSP just as an example.

I have been complaining about hyper focus on violence in video games for a very long time however, what I do not do is insist that GTA have a construction simulator mode because I want it.

Instead what I do is I look for games that I think will be appealing and buy those games.

Sure post suggestions in SE forums and leave it at that, but silly threats like 'or I will not buy your game' is just silly and unproductive

The hunger and water part can be removed, but defending yourself against AI is a part of survival that I like.

I understand what you want.
That said, what you are saying is materially false.
In SE you CAN turn off aggressive AI you ...CANT.... turn off hunger and thirst because that does not exist in the core game.

Why do they call it survival in SE? When there is no hunger or thirst
Dan2D3D  [developer] Feb 25 @ 9:00am
In SE1, for the "hunger and thirst", it is "Power, O2 and Life points" that we can setup to auto heal or not and game over on death or not.
