How Does This Verison Compare To The PS1 Original In 2025?
I was thinking about buying a PS3 if I can find the model that's backwards compatible with PS2 games. Now, I've heard that the PC ports of various older SQUARE ENIX games had problems when they were first released on Steam. Most of the forums related to this port's flaws are from years ago though. How does this version of the game compare to its original release in 2025? What problems have been fixed and what problems are still present? If the PC version is still botched, I'll just wait until I can find a backwards compatible PS3 and play the original there.

The game was indeed a buggy mess when it launched. Nowadays, though? Performance-wise, in Windows 11, it's flawless. Not botched at all anymore. Even with the 2x speed toggle, the game manages a stable framerate with no audio glitches or anything. I just played for 5h straight yesterday and, if Square were to pay me to find bugs, I would leave empty handed, as I didn't encounter a single glitch or issue.

The *only* downside of this version are the non-upscaled graphics, meant for 240p CRTs. Square was simply lazy here. But, that can be easily fixed with Fraggoso's Zeitgeist mod.

This is straight up a whole new experience. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It literally turns a port into a remaster. A phenomenal one, at that.

That being said, with the Zeitgeist mod, the game is 100% worth it nowadays. Whoever's considering should go for it!
