Why Remaster and not a Remake?
Whyyyy?? I would buy it if it was a remake like Trials of Mana is a was beautiful and fun to play. Now that's not even worth the money spent.

Remake would've destroy the gorgeous visual style of the OG game.

I would accept Remake only if it would look EXACTLY like OG CGI of Chrono Cross, straight from 90's. Modern videogame graphics with realism, grainy detail... it won't be the same.

Be thankful, if it was a remake, it would be an Epic exclusive, considering how closely SE and Epic have been the past couple years.

Square forgot to hit "save".

because chrono series is a cult classic meaning despite being extremely popular to certain circles it doesn't have wide enough popularity for corporations to believe sinking loads of money into it would be profitable. it's an unfortunate trend that also affects horror games. same reason why sonic games are also not likely to see proper remakes outside ports. because sonic has mostly changed into a cult classic as well.

Eh, I'm typically not a fan of remakes these days. They tend to miss SOMETHING, or change something up for the worse (IMO), sometimes by applying more streamlined and handholding gameplay/mechanics for the modern audience, and to push the game out faster, they'll cut corners sometimes as well.
I definitely think the game could use a remake, over Trigger. But it needed a more accessible way to play the original first, since you could only play it from PS1 or PS3 shop, the latter of which is soon going away.
Just look Trials of Mana and see in steam the quality the game.

it's ez money. why develop a new game that might not sell, you already made a blockbuster 25 years ago and most ppl nowadays havn't played it yet, just rerelease it on the cheap :>

Trails of Mana is the probably the best actual remake SQEX ever did. So not sure what you're getting at here.

Probably because the game is a bit obscure and wasn't super well received at its time. Buying the remaster is our chance to send the message that this game really has an audience! i hope it does extremely well and they get the courage to make a remake, a third chrono game or something.

FFIV advance which could be considered a "remaster" got FFIV DS 3d-remake only a year after release. Getting a remake in the future isn't impossible

Having finished the game a couple of different ways, I can say that a remake would ruin the game, just like the FF7 remake ruined the story from the original, as well as the gameplay. If they had stopped with only the graphics, I would have bought the game, but they screwed with the story and the game mechanics, and that made it a no-buy for me.I have the original FF7 on PS3 and Steam, and forever that will stay, because remakes love to screw over the storyline for whatever agenda they're trying to force on players.

That said, I'm happy for a CC remaster if it's not buggy. I have CT on my PS3, but declined to buy the Steam version because of the massive report of bugs in the game. If you're going to port a game to PC from PS, you should at least run it through some testing before release - see Cyberpunk 2077.

I want the old PS games on Steam because I'm disabled and I want all my games on one platform (I can't sit on my bed and play my PS's anymore). But that doesn't mean I'm going to accept buggy crap, much less remakes that ruin the game even worse than bugs.

I remember some SE employee or another was asked about the possibility of there being a new game in the series, years ago.

He laughed and said people should buy the games if they want more, referring to the DS port. I have the distinct impression the Chrono series sells far worse than it would seem, due to the fan base being very vocal. It's sad, but who knows maybe this port will soar.
