Crashing on PC, freezing on Steam Deck.
Is there any fix? I feel like I am able to play 5-10 minutes on Steam Deck before I get freezing (background music still playing.) On my desktop I am able to play longer but inconsistently it'll just crash and restart my whole computer.

I'm having the same problem on my steam deck. Mine has been freezing every 15min or so. This apparently has been an issue for a year now on proton and no solution has really been found that I can find.

Verify files, make sure all clients and drivers are up to date, switch to windowed mode, and classic graphics. I think the latter is what effectively worked for me.

I have tried everything to get it working. It's beyond frustrating. The game crashes both on my steam deck and my PC. I have searched and searched for different fixes and for the life of me I can't play for more then 5-10min at a time. I can't believe what a sorry state this game is.

It is quite pitiful indeed. Send a message to Steam Support. The more of us that do, the more pressure they will hopefully have to fix it.

The funny thing is if you go to Square Enix support page Chrono Cross is not on the list of games to select for support

unoptimized port. use dxvk with the settings config AND use 4gb patcher on the exe AND make Windows Paging File 65536 to prevent vram popup.

I'll add that for Linux - force run compatibility to proton experimental (optionally bleeding edge beta)

Have you tried turning off SteamOverlay on PC?

Change the graphics to the original, pixelated artwork. Doing this completely fixes the game and makes it playable with no crashes on the Steam Deck.

Change resolution to 800x600 (in CC launcher), enable FSR through steam deck settings [...] button on the right of the deck. allows game to render at a lower resolution.
