I'm in a similar situation as you with the endings though. I beat it once, getting the first ending, and when I played it again, I couldn't figure out how to make any decisions that really changed anything. The second time I kept making choices to make Kidd angry, just to see if anything would happen, but nothing really changed. I didn't play through all the way to the end that time though, so I don't know if I did actually change anything, but since the story was going exactly the same way, I don't think I was doing it right.
I would like to play this game and get the other endings without a guide, but I'm not even sure if that's possible.
ONE VERY IMPORTANT NOE: Radical Dreamers only writes its saves to the hard drive when you quit the game *properly*. Meaning you must press the ESC button and quit that way. If you ALT+F4 the game, it will delete all the progress you made that session and restore the game back to the way it was when you started. Pressing ESC and quitting manually will write all the saves and keep your progress.
I screwed myself out of about 6 hours of progress that way, as I learned the hard way that ALT+F4 does deletes everything you've done, despite me saving dozens of times during that session.
