Frequent freezing/crashing even after the update
Framerate updates are great and the game looks buttery smooth. However, I'm running into crashes that seem to get more frequent as I get further into the game. Playing on both Steam Deck and PC. It happens in all areas, during battle, during dialogue. I'm not using the fast forward feature. There's no stuttering leading up to it. The game just freezes up while music and sound effects continue to play.

Didn't have any of these issues the first 8 or so hours in, but since then I'm encountering at least one in between every save point.

I am having the same issue.

Exact same issue. Been messing around with settings, but so far, I haven't had any luck. Tried many combinations of new/old graphics, resolutions, and window modes. No setup seems to alleviate the problem. I can't see it being a hardware issue, as I'm running a brand new $4k PC with all new parts and this doesn't happen with any other game on max settings.

I'm suddenly having this issue a lot after a couple hours of play. Seems to happen a lot when certain graphical effects happen (the burst effect to start a battle or upon a strike) but it can happen whenever. Just had the game lock up during the pre-title demo FMV.

This one sounds like a codec issue. After checking game file integrity, try updating your PC and graphics drivers. You might have to dissect the game to figure out what type of visual driver it's using, whether OpenGL or whatever. It could even be a threading issue.

I'm having the same issue, currently thinking to refund this game unfortunately. Is there any solutions?
i also have same issue crashing/freezing while sound and music still being on (need to end it from task manager).
I'm using latest amd driver here, maybe u guys got issue on AMD GPU as your system? mine 6600 GPU

I'm not really sure it's an AMD issue. The Steamdeck has a combined CPU/GPU chip my AMD but it's apparently closer to the old NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti. People are also having the same issue on powerful 4k machines the game can't even begin to utilize. I suspect what Belmont said was correct and ti's a weird codec issue. The game not running at proper resolutions shouldn't have been hardware issues either as it should have ran well on even a toaster.

This started to happen to me after about 3 hours of gameplay, and it's frequent enough to make it unplayable IMHO. I saw some discussions about AMD GPUs, but I'm running on a Geforce RTX 2060 SUPER, so the error is probably somewhere else.
Such a shame for a game that's been out for a while.

i monitor my GPU memory speed and system ram use by using MSIafterburner, this game sometimes used 4200 - 4900gb ram and sometimes it only use 3500 - 3900gb ram (the memory ram used change happen after my game freeze/crashes then i reopen the game again). Gpu memory speed can suddenly go to 3200mhz then immediately go down to 100-1700mhz (it is not consistent) other game have consistent GPU memory speed use.

Yeah...it sounds like a problem with the emulation or something...maybe it's causing a memory leak of some kind...idk...I have to wonder if the patch introduced these issues. Still the fact that they patched the game in the first place gives hope that they'll try to fix this too.
Hmmm Are you sure you're not running an emulator?

Memory leak may actually be good to be able to hack the emulator to do the right things..
It's amazing they put people in prison over emulation, but then the industry tries it, screws it up and doesn't fix anything right..
It did take another 6 years practically for FF9 to be almost perfect after release on steam with moguri mod...
This deserves the trash bin though and they need to put real money into the game development but won't because of shysters...

I'm pretty sure that having a newer or more expensive computer doesn't translate into "so that's not the problem". Just tossing that out there.

so your solution is getting expensive computer system just for unoptimized game? it is not worth . i love this game, but the game still got issue. Thanks to modder who fix this game early than dev
