Razzly (spoilers)
After all these years, I gotta say this is still one of the most poorly designed sidequests in any RPG. For those that don't know, Razzly:
-Can only be recruited on the Save Kid route
-Requires fighting two optional bosses that you can easily miss if you go the wrong way, and if don't do that before killing the Hydra in the same dungeon she dies
-You have to bring her to fight said Hydra to trigger an event
-You have to bring her to fight the dwaves on water isle
This is the only way to save her sister (and the hydras). What do you get as a reward for completing this chain of limited time events? Absolutely nothing! Meanwhile if you fail this by not bringing her to the Hydra fight; her sister dies, the hydra go extinct, the swamps will eventually turn to acid like in the other world...and you get rewarded with Razzly's level 7 skill later in the game.

I just don't understand the reasoning behind putting the unique skill behind failing the event chain.

I just got her level 7 tech today after a few fails, and the story definitely pissed me off more than the difficulty of acquiring it or on how missable it was compared to other techs. It just doesn't make any sense that the bad ending unlocks it instead of the good ending.
You also only get Kid's backstory cutscene on Water Dragon Isle if you let her die, or do the "leave Kid to die" route which prevents you from saving Razzly altogether.

This section of the game always bugged me. It's such a simple environmental theme mishandled. The dwarves are so laughably antagonistic yet it's supposed to be the humans' fault for this.

You get Kid's backstory and a wisp cape which is more useful if you already have the level 7

A lot of people, like myself, like being rewarded for failures occasionally. Especially when you can do multiple runs and find new things.

The campfire cutscene is almost as infamous. Only on the route where you to chose to leave Kid to die, you get her backstory.

That’s the scene I’m referring to. You can get it on the save Kid route, but… for some reason Razzly being recruited is the trigger for not getting it. Which means you have to let Razzly die in order to see the scene.

Theres cutscenes with Leena on the cliff and Riddel with Dario too that can be easily missed. Another good quest to fail is Guiles. Sleep in an Inn before talking to the fortune teller for the bronze staff and he reveals his face to her.

I mean, I've personally had no problem with this. Missing Razzly is really on the player if they do, because it literally pauses your gameplay to watch Razzly's spirit(?) lead you on her path. I always found the fact that Razzly needs to personally kill the Hydra, and witness her sisters death to receive her Level 7 tech to be very fitting to the themes of the game and for her character growth. Also, you don't even need to save Razzly to have Rosetta survive. Rosetta living or dying depends on how fast you go through the Water Dragon Isle. If you go for the side items or take a long time on the Hi-Ho Tank, that's usually what causes it.

On the Save Kid route what determines it is if you have Razzly in your party for the Hydra boss. If Razzly is in your party, Rosetta lives. If she isn't in your party, Rosetta dies.

Not familiar with how it's determined on the route where you don't get Razzly.

I believe Rosetta lives in the don’t save Kid route.

If you don't save Kid, Rosetta lives, I also find this quest super weird, you should be rewarded for keep the Hydra alive and not otherwise.

I think Rosetta can be saved or die either way but I'm not 100% sure on that. I remember once playing the PS1 version of the game I took the save kid rout got Razzly. Then later when going to Water Dragon Isle she was in my party and by the time I got though the tank Rosetta was dead. But playing though it again later and even on the new version (On the Switch) I took the same route and she lived when I got to her.

I think her living or dying might actually depend on how long it takes you to get to her once you find the dwarfs on the island, but I have no idea what that time limit might be.

She lives if you have Razzly in the party while fighting the hydra and then inspect the boss room after. Razzly will notice that there are hydra eggs.

Doing this will keep Rosetta alive.

If you rescue Razzly but don’t do this, Rosetta will die. However, you actually have to do it this way if you want Razzly’s Lv 7 tech.

If you don’t save Razzly at all, or choose don’t help Kid (New Game only), Rosetta will live.

I say New Game only for the Kid choice, because technically you can save Razzly and still do the don’t save Kid route in New Game+. Since you keep the Green Bell, you can complete the marsh before Viper Manor.

I'm pretty sure you DON'T bring her to fight the hydra.

And it also doesn't matter if you bring her to fight the dwarves. You get more dialogue if you do, but you get her Lv7 tech regardless.

I'm guessing because of the success from Chrono Trigger with the TWELVE endings it had, SE were assuming they would get the same success here, and people would want to try different playthroughs.

Pretty sure this was debunked. Just like when fighting Harle, her using Moon Beams locked you out of getting the Moon Glasses to drop, which turned out to be false.

I literally just finished the Water Dragon Isle, and I fought every battle, and got every item, and she was still alive.
