The reason this turned out so bad was due to being an Emulation and not a port.
Unlike every other Square Remaster as of late, (Legend of Mana, Saga Frontier, etc etc)
Square-Enix lost the original source code to Chrono Cross.
So instead of rebuilding the remaster like they did with Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts, they decided to just throw together a PSX emulator, and run the original game ISO in it.
Then after they got it running, they went back and touched up a few things here and there, but that is what caused all the frame rate and graphical issues.

This video discusses what was done in detail, and I feel ripped off (Bought the PS4 and Switch PHYSICAL copies..)

Yea, I know I am stating the obvious to some people, but not everyone.
Just trying to stop as many people form wasting their money as I can, or at least get a refund.
I felt quite ripped off.

Exactly what I was trying to say, it's horribly emulated, and being sold at a premium price.

Key word is "poorly emulated" because the game looks and runs like a dream with the right settings on beetle psx hw or duckstation.

Stop assuming that everyone has the same experience as you. That's the problem with you people. For many, we've had little to no issues at all, and it's time you acknowledged that without caveats or qualifications. You people are just too quick to blame the game because you don't want to look at yourselves and your own systems and expectations and admit they're not perfect, and you're afraid of losing face by admitting as such.

You demand a 30-year old game be remastered to fit ideas and speeds it was never designed for or intended to run at and get mad when it runs like the vanilla, unmodified PSX version instead when it was never advertised that it would run as more than that. You're demanding something that was never offered to begin with and refusing to admit that your expectations are flawed and unrealistic. And as for emulators, not everyone wants to spend hours trying out different settings just to get a configuration where it might work. They want to just play the game, and the remaster allows that.

Start qualifying your statements rather than making broad accusations of badness. Speak only in terms of your own experience while acknowledging that it is not everyone's. Hate is the new love, apparently, and you people seem to love to hate. Logically, if some people are having issues while others are not, as is the case here, then the game itself isn't the issue or the sole issue. People's systems and how much they have open at the same time (and the kinds of programs) are, yet they're too proud to admit it. Or to admit that it's impossible to anticipate how the game may interact with hundreds of thousands of different system configurations and develop accordingly.

What the ♥♥♥♥ are you rambling about? I'm not talking about the remaster, I meant that it runs well on an actual emulator. I'm not discounting everyone's experiences with the remaster, I've had problems with it too.

I have no demands for a perfect remaster and my faith is pretty low in SquareEnix anymore. I'm happy playing the old games on an emulator with shaders and upscaling even though I did waste my money on this one.

Really is a travesty they "lost" the source code for a classic game. Because it's not like someone stole it or it was destroyed in a fire. It's digital data that lazy and stupid people just decided isn't important enough to keep track of.

And it really does affect the product. FF9 is running on its original code in Unity engine and it's great for that. One of the best mobile ports I've ever played and easy to mod on PC to be the best version possible.

They deleted it because they needed the memory space and no one thought games being re-released was going to be a big thing back in the 90s and early 2000s.

True, but they kept the Final Fantasy Data, though that's their biggest franchise (Not X though, they rebuilt X from the ground up)

You think they'd keep some small tape backup somewhere but understandable.

Still it's sad to see this handled so poorly

I don't understand the issue with the frame rate with the Radical Dreamers text adventure. It is a SNES game. It wouldn't matter if the audio wasn't tied to the frame rate. I hope someone fixes it. The music is a big part of these games.

Yeah whatever emulator they are using is pretty bad. Thankfully most of it's issues can be fixed with SpecialK and other engine mods. Actually looks and plays very good with those applied.

The worst part was they whipped up the emulator just for this game.... you;d think it would be optimized.

They didn’t keep Final Fantasy data. They managed to get access to the source code for FF7 just because they happened to find someone with the ability to give it to them out of dumb luck. FF9 was entirely remade from scratch.
