difficulty with serial (spoilers)
I'm having difficulty telling this ai about my serial number, as the number keeps changing, and the system runs so horrendously slowly in this specific situation (as it does when the About System dialogue is up) that the serial has long-since changed by the time I finish answering the ai's questions.

Is something bugged here, or am I missing something?

that's weird, the serial never changed for me, nor did I have any performance issues there. if it's any help (and I remember correctly), it asks for the first, second and last digits.

Initially when I got to this part, the serial wasn't noticably changing, but the 2nd digit was a letter, which I had no means of conveying. I eventually gave up and quit out, only for Steam to present me with an update.
The update corrected the presence of hexadecimal digits, but made the serial change fairly rapidly.

The exceedingly slow behavior of the About System dialog and the serial verification sequence was present for me both before and after the recent update.

Of course, after having said that I've just launched the game again, and once again have a hexadecimal serial instead of a pure decimal one.
What is going on?

Edit:
Aaaand now it's rapidly-changing decimal again. This inconsistent behavior is frustrating.

That's definitely a problem that shouldn't be happening. Can I ask which OS you're running it on?

I just fixed the issue. I'm going to upload it in a few minutes.

If you're curious, here's what I think happened: the programming language that Dum-Dum was built in has the ability to provide a unique identifying number to each computer. I used this unique number to generate the serial number in the About program. It's supposed to be static and always the same. But for some reason, the programming language's algorithm is getting confused on your computer. I imagine there may be others having the same problem.

I had originally intended to use the serial number's uniqueness for a feature I had hoped to eventually add. But there's really no need for it to be unique to complete the main quest. So I just swapped it out for a static unchanging number that everyone who owns the game will see. This should solve the problem.

The fix is now live. It should also address the problem with the system running slow whenever About System is open.

I'm really sorry about this frustrating experience. Thank you for letting me know about it.

Thank you for addressing the problem. :)

Since you asked, I'm on Windows 10, 64 bit. If there are any further questions I can answer about my system to help you to track down the root of the matter and get that uniqueness feature working, I'll be happy to help.
