The update corrected the presence of hexadecimal digits, but made the serial change fairly rapidly.
The exceedingly slow behavior of the About System dialog and the serial verification sequence was present for me both before and after the recent update.
What is going on?
Edit:
Aaaand now it's rapidly-changing decimal again. This inconsistent behavior is frustrating.
If you're curious, here's what I think happened: the programming language that Dum-Dum was built in has the ability to provide a unique identifying number to each computer. I used this unique number to generate the serial number in the About program. It's supposed to be static and always the same. But for some reason, the programming language's algorithm is getting confused on your computer. I imagine there may be others having the same problem.
I had originally intended to use the serial number's uniqueness for a feature I had hoped to eventually add. But there's really no need for it to be unique to complete the main quest. So I just swapped it out for a static unchanging number that everyone who owns the game will see. This should solve the problem.
I'm really sorry about this frustrating experience. Thank you for letting me know about it.
Since you asked, I'm on Windows 10, 64 bit. If there are any further questions I can answer about my system to help you to track down the root of the matter and get that uniqueness feature working, I'll be happy to help.
