How does LAN coop works?
Just wanting to know before I buy the game, how does local coop works?

Is this like resident evil 5 where you can choose to search between online or local?
Is this like minecraft/terraria that asks for your IP address?
Is this like l42d where you it lists the game between locally and online?

JUST TO CLARIFY: I'm asking LAN play, which is still local coop, this thread only tackles multiple players in 1 PC
thread specified: http://steamcommunity.com/app/113020/discussions/3/792924412458158543/

Max players?
If 4 players, Is this perfectly playable with 2-3 only?
Can bots substitute for the missing person?

To whoever that will answer some or all of my questions. Thanks!

It works a bit like this:
In the main menu, when you're about to pick a level to play, you can go offline or online.
If you go online, it'll create a lobby or look for one for you. No IP required or anything.
If you go offline, it'll have you play with the mouse and keyboard and you can then plug in controllers (by default, only xbox 360 are allowed, but there are ways around that) and press start to join in.

Max players is 4, but as a rule of thumb, the more players, the more chaos. If you're alone, it's usually gonna be a smooth operation. If you're going in with only one friend, things are gonna go alright.
If three or four, expect lots of laughs, lots of panic, and lots of running. Oh, and lots of teamwork.

thanks for the answers for the player count and gameplay with it, but my first uqesiton wasn't answered yet, I wasn't specific with my statement earlier, but I was actually asking for LAN option. How can you play on LAN e.g.. Lan parties

All on the same computer.
If you want to play on multiple computers, you'll need internet on all of them.

just to clarify misleading title of topic. LAN is local area network. So it is network multiplayer.
Local coop tag on steam means COUCH COOP. So there is NO local coop in L4D2 and RE5 other than mods. Otherwise CS and CoD would have local coop tag. So don't expect answers on question about LAN if you question is about singlesceen MP. Cheers

changed title, I always assumed local coop as LAN games.

Anyways on-topic again:

I saw this video:

There is a LAN option in the settings. Hopefully the LAN probelms I saw in my google search has already been fixed. Will try this on lan asap when I get home
