Good question! From my Direct playthroughs I would say the best explanation of Direct is "literal, blunt, and outspoken". Compared to Relaxed, who is also a talker, Direct will have no inclination to be welcoming or skirt the issue in a social situation, but won't necessarily be cruel either. Neither Direct nor Relaxed seem shy, but Relaxed may say the most diplomatic answer while Direct will be brutally truthful or say nothing at all.
My mother used praise my friend for always making others feel at home around them, but she would reprimand me saying "Just because something is true, doesn't mean you have to say it out loud." In that situation, my friend was Relaxed, and I was Direct. (I am very grateful for the Direct options in OL).
It's just my personal experience with the game, but I hope that's helpful!
This was very, very helpful! /genuine
This helps me understand it it a LOT better! Thank you so much!!
