dont get me wrong, i love cove but im suddenly also in love with derek :( does the DLC give u the option to choose other ppl as ur love interests or will it always be Cove?

The Step 3 DLC doesn't allow you to romance someone other than Cove, but there will be 2 other DLCs where you will get the opportunity to romance Derek and Baxter.
But they will be released after the Step 4 DLC, so you will have to wait a little ^^

I think Derek DLC should come out somewhere around september or october, and baxter dlc would be november / december? I forgot exactly.

In the case of a female romance-able character, would that be implemented in future updates? I know I have set my character’s preference to girls only, but I get the feeling the game wouldn’t let me have any freedom if Cove is the only choice is there?

There won't be a female love interest in Our Life: Beginnings & Always because the next game by GB Patch "flips the chessboard" and will feature mostly (only?) female love interests, if I recall correctly. It is called Our Life: Now & Forever and is in active development, see their Tumblr[gb-patch.tumblr.com].

Our Life: Now & Forever is the second game, has two main leads, and focuses specifically on female options and LIs that aren't defined by the male/female binary (one lead uses she/her and the other uses he/them pronouns). We plan on releasing more info about it starting next month.
