The Ground is usually Copper Duo's then upgrade to pyratite. Then upgrade to Hail.... and then finally upgrade the Hail into Swarmer.
Both Cyclone and Swarmer are Air and Ground turrets. If i need more than that, i go for Blast Compound.
Edit:
*I actually route my metalglass feed through my frontlines into my base. So i am not making an extra production line for the metal glass ammo... i just route it the extra distance with the cheap conveyor belts and feed the excess into my base to use in base building. Then later i just cut the cord, by connecting a shortcut and feed in the new type of ammo.
Its wasting some copper, i grant, but its copper.
Prove by veranity.
they use both lead and copper and when you get better ♥♥♥♥ upgrade the ammo type by feeding a conveyor belt to them. Best to have them all connected via routers so ammo replenishing can go both ways without having to re-route all the conveyor belts.
It's a cheap and efficient way to build a mass defense in the front lines and severely weaken the incoming bombers/attack ships and when the flying saucer bosses show up as well.
Tbh though the wraiths are probably your best bet since they can attack en mass and it's easy to build the repair stations for them across the frontlines/electrical poles. Best have them circle around a command center a couple of feet from the front lines then when the wave starts change to attack mode.
The salvos and the electric turrets are best saved for bosses as they're pretty much overkill on smaller enemies.
lead and maybe more anti-air ships since they actually chase the enemies while the turrets just stand there getting destroyed.
