However, it seems that if you link your account somehow you can download at least other created avatars for AI players.
The "Persona" system here is a joke, honestly. It's as if they looked at AoW's create your own leaders system and wondered how best to make that a useless feature. Furthermore, they decided to tack on requiring the player to create an account with a third party website in order to use their "trade and play" Persona feature.
It's dumb and there's no excuse for how poorly implemented this feature is. You cannot even save presets (or change your name without changing your Steam name - and restarting the game!) for your own avatar. If you want to change your avatar based on what kind of faction you want to play, you have to completely discard all previous avatar changes and start from scratch. Every. Single. Time.
All that is to say nothing of the rogue-lite unlocking system for traits and personalities for - your - avatar. Sounds okay, I suppose, yes? Except the traits you're picking for your avatar is the types of overt cheats it will use when/if it is used by another player who downloaded it via G2G (whatever this site is).
It's truly mystifying what they did here. They had all the mechanics to make a full featured leader creation system and just... stopped. Stinks of corporate interference and streamer toe sucking, says I.
I have to completely agree with this.
The day it launched everyone complained about crashes, bugs, immersion and I was sitting there like:
"Custom AI where?"
I was disillusioned that no one pointed out the third party service ♥♥♥♥-up.
This is an atrocity on Amplitude Studio's part and they lost my trust forever.
After delivering a beautiful Endless Space 2 they screwed up so much in so many ways.
It seems like this year all studios are trying to overdo each other on the disappointment scale.
It was the 4x I was looking forward to for more than a year.
Such a shame. Even if they fix this mess I won't forgive them. They probable wanted to monetize this persona system somehow.
They probably want to sell some extra historical personas as a part of the feature list of DLCs.
They could still do it, because I believe when you get access to a DLC persona, you also get access to their parts for editing your own.
This would Creative Assembly level of DLC...
I would be OK with one not very expensive DLC that unlocks custom personas, but not with multiple DLCs that each give you a handful of traits.
That would be horrible.
The situation is already bad enough with no customization on release.
Imagine milking persona traits for DLCs.
I mean, okay in “Civilization 6” we can't do this, but that's not a problem since the game features a lot of historical leaders, each one being from a peculiar civilisation, speaking their native language, and having historical traits.
Here, avatars are in poor number, and don't have the historical traits (even physical) that have been reproduced in “Civilization 6”.
The game allows us to customize our own avatar, so why can't we save it, rename it, make several ones and play against them?
To be honest, I think that I like the gameplay in “Humankind” much more than in “Civilization 6”. But I really need to be able to save different avatars and use them as AI.
The AI already seems to pick Harappans and Mycenaeans in every single game (it's the case in my two games), it's something that needs to be fixed so we can have more variety with AI. And avatars would be part of this variety if we can customize those of AI.
