Left-click problems on MacBook
On my MacBook I have tap-to-click enabled (I think it's the default). However, tapping UI elements in RailRoute does not seem to trigger them. I can double-tap the elements, and that appears to be received as a double-click, but single-tap is not received as single-click. For example, to open a station info panel, I can double-tap the info button and I get two of the same info panel to open, but single-tap does not open the panel. Right-click with a two-finger tap works fine.

Did you encounter the problem for some time or does it start happening recently? Which version do you have now?

Does the problem persist when you switch to branch 2.0.16 under Betas?

Confirmed that when I switch to 2.0.16 the problem goes away.

I was previously on whichever version downloaded from Steam on 2024-04-13, and I don't know whether it started happening recently because this was my first time opening the game in over a year. Wanted to check it out again :)

Now an adventurous turn: try to switch back to the default branch.

So I think it was working on default for a bit, but Steam just installed Build ID 14190637 and the bug is in that version.

Let's summarize:
  1. It did not work in 2.0.17.1 initially (13997073)
  2. It worked in 2.0.16 from Betas (13827155)
  3. It worked in 2.0.17.1 after switching back to default
  4. It does not work in 2.0.18 (14190637) we published this week

Try to switch to 2.0.16 and back to default again and share the result.

I have a more general, but somewhat similar problem. Often when I start the game (v 2.0.19, running MacOS 14.4.1) from my Steam library or from the desktop shortcut, all actions that normally work with a single-click require double-clicking, including resuming an Endless game and Exiting Rail Route. I can usually get things to work right by exiting Rail Route, starting another game in my Steam library (which always works normally), quitting that, and then restarting Rail Route. Sometimes it works OK from the start and I don't have to try my workaround, and sometimes my workaround doesn't work. Then I have to restart Steam. I'm using a Logitech M570 trackball, and I don't have any special settings enabled for it.

Can you ever fix it also without launching another game?
lonwright May 13, 2024 @ 2:42pm
Sometimes it starts up and works right away requiring only single-clicks. Sometimes starting the other game doesn't work. I think restarting Steam always gets it to work -- I'll double-check that. Anything else to try?

I would try reinstalling steam client. The non-deterministic nature of the problem indicates it is not bound to some bug in the game itself. But who knows...

Is there anyone who knows the solution to this? I started a couple of days ago playing Rail Route for the first time (downloaded on August 10th, with the hotfix 2.2.4). Playing on my MacBook Air M2, Sonoma 14.5.
All of a sudden today I need to do a double click to get an action done with the left mouse button.

The things that changed since I played the past days are that I downloaded 2 other games today to my MacBook and played them (I guess each game just a few minutes or so). Then wanted to play Rail Route again and I got confused; finally I found that I needed to do a double click...

I read the previous posts and tried to start another game and then Rail Route again. No solution.
Then stopped Steam and restarted Steam and then started Rail Route. No solution.
Restarted my MacBook. No solution.
Also deleted the 2 other downloaded games. No solution.

Any help would be much appreciated.

few things you can try
1, try not move your mouse after you started the game in steam
2, when you are in the game use mission control switch to another window and come back
3, you may need to restart you mac and retry if needed

That did it! Going to Mission Control (F3) and start some other window and then come back.
Thanks for that advice. Although it's a strange work-around to make when you play this game...

I could try a build using the latest Unity version. Maybe Apple changed something & Unity already reacted to the change.

We have built a new version 2.2.4.1 to test if it fixes this issue, you can test it by switching to the next_unity branch under the Betas list in Steam of Rail Route

So please go ahead and test it under that branch, hopefully, that fixed it

Hi! I've just bought the game. I'm on a Macbook M3 and I also have to double-click instead of clicking on each action. Bug ? It's weird because it only worked for a moment on a single click and then I just restarted the game and double click again. Thanks :)
