shunting

kan someone explain shunting? I have a freight train waiting half an hour and I want to move it aside. I select shunting add the shunting rail/sign, add the reverse, add the station track (I have no option to make it wait 3 mins like in the example) But then the train just sits there...

The freight train are supposed to have a long waiting time at platform - as shown in the contract when accepting. So you can't shunt it away in its waiting time.

Thanks, was thinking it might be that. So it's only useful for those regional trains that come in segments? I haven't accepted those yet but it sounds like they have waiting times not at a platform.

You are correct. You can use shunting on any trains though, for turnarounds or similar f.ex.

All written is valid. Just an amendment: waiting time represents loading / unloading of the train so it can not be moved away (for now).

While I understand that the train can't be moved, is it possible to move the locomotive to the other side? I have been able to do so by hand, but not with shunting sensors.

Yes, attach/detach loco (and shunting the loco to the other side) is the one thing you can do to the IC or Freight while they are stationary at the platform, since the train itself can't be moved.

You have to ensure a long enough stop, and attaching the shunting rule to the correct platform signal, and ensure the shunting sensor trigger the train.
