Is there a way to select switches for auto signal?

Is there a way to select the used switches for an auto signal?

If a train comes from the upper left and wants to go to platform 2, the auto signal chooses the path as in the screenshot. However, if there is now a train on platform 1 about to depart, it has to wait couple of moments until the first train entered platform 1. Manually I can prevent this, but first establishing a route for the departing train from platform 1 and then for the arriving train to platform 2. This way, both trains have non-conflicting routes. But if fully automated, always the trains from platform 2 block platform 1. Any solution for this?

1. You can set a prefered route manually for the inbound signal. Click the signal and while hovering over the destination, use the scroll wheel to switch between available routes and click once your prefered route is shown. This should be the prefered route by the sensor as well.

2. Do you need a connection to platform 1 from the inbound signal, or could you possibly remove the connection?

If a prefered route is set, it is obeyed by automation as well any time it is possible. Otherwise, some alternate route is created for that moment while preserving the pre-set.

Only if you repeat step (1) you create a new pre-set.

Thanks to both of you, thank was really what I needed. Since regarding 2, no, that was not an option, as platform 1 and 2 are supposed to be reached, as independently as possible. I went again through all of the in game tutorials and I couldn't find any mention of this. It should be included, in my opinion.
For a matter of fact, couldn't even find it online (even though, I do remember that I saw it some long time in a blog post for an update...but obviously I have forgotten about this useful tool.
