Regional Trains upgrade
I've been trying to figure out how to use the Dispatch Center, with the Regional Trains upgrade. I must be doing something fundamentally wrong, because contracts never appear next to the Center. In addition, when I place the Center, I am told to press 0-9 to set it, but I don't know what that means; pressing the numbers doesn't seem to do anything.

Is there a tutorial that explains how Regional Trains function?

That 0-9 is only there to set the keyboard short cut for the tracks, signals etc. you can build.

I find placing it near more central stations yields better results for contracts. Make sure you have that station with a connection to an outside station so a train has somewhere to come from. On some maps the odd small station is used as a freight line so avoid these as they will unlikely yield other contact types.

Tutorial for regional trains is on the way - part of Update 15, hopefully out next week.

We indeed have to release functionality and its tutorial at once to prevent players' frustration.

Indeed, I had a regional contact that I rejected but the train refused to take exit points off the map. Had to reload a save before I took that contract.

Thank you! Even not understanding Regional trains, I've been playing non-stop. This has become my new favorite.

The only way I can handle regionals is with a coach yard they can go to. No clue how to work regionals without a coach yard though it is possible.

If I am in any doubt on how anything works I just start a new map with the goal of only pursuing that option. To learn about regional I started a simple map, built up a little bit without buying extra stations, and learnt how the process worked, removing all the other contracts so they didn't get in the way, without fear of ruining my developed game map. To speed things up you could select unlimited cash and all upgrades and treat it as a learning zone.

I agree, Regional without a coach yard is tricky to hold them on platforms or spare track. Maybe the new shunting options will help with that, which is a future update I believe. I find it easier to build up red points with one time freight, you can usually have a station that can hold 2 to 3 at a time, plus better cash. Once the coach yard is available I go straight for that, and after that is running, ditch the one time freight and re-purpose those holding platforms. I usually find that I have way more red points than green afterwards.

We will have a look at this.

Simplest: just keep them at the platform where they ended the first leg. Once the next leg should start, the the well-known timer icon appears. Click it and then click at the icon that appears over the train.

We are in the middle of reworking the progression through the game.

Simply said: green points will unlock upgrades needed for the green trains (including automation, unlike now). Red points will unlock upgrades needed for red trains (like shunting commands, shunting sensor and, finally, the coach yard.

I wrote a bit more here recently (just scroll down):

I was trying to reproduce this but I am not successful. Do you remember any details or do you possess the save with such prototype?

I no longer have that save. If it occurs again, I will put in a bug report. Thank you.
