Save data lost
Started the game today, and it has a strange amalgam of my save, throwing away a lot of hours if not just corrupting the data. No errors were reported.

  • Settings show part of my button mapping, but the context action and target lock settings are not what I set them to.
  • Have 19 skulls and 20 rings. Not sure what I should have, but I think I should not have rings unspent. I don't have any ring upgrades bought.
  • Have one badge (red/gold thing) but should have three. Says I have only completed the first Serpent temple, which was the first temple completed, but that was months ago.
  • Have some blessings unlocked (might be the same ones unlocked as before), but have two blessing slots instead of three.
  • Weapon altars show a single skull on the first three and no skulls on two handed. Had hundreds of tediously ground skulls spent here.
  • Favors reduced to 2 from 3.
  • Many things are calling themselves new, especially in the progression menus. Ring page and weapon altar page, for example, force new information popups.

It's possible this could be an accurate save, but from quite a few months ago. I don't know how that would happen, but obviously I want my correct save and not to be set back MOST of my hours on the already annoying grind and unlocking.

I have recently moved the game's install location. Searching for files, I notice that you have your saved data stored in the game install folder WHICH IS INCREDIBLY WRONG WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, but that doesn't explain throwing away specific months of progress, since there are save files there.

Steam cloud saves are disabled entirely in Steam settings.

Both files are the same size and appear to be binary. It should go without saying but it's not a backup if you overwrite the backup when we do things we have to do to find out we need a backup.

I eventually ground back the lost progress and back up my save periodically since the devs obviously couldn't be bothered to care and even still keep the save in the same bonehead location.
