Rant: Dead cells crossover
okay so this is a bit of just a peeve of mine i guess but I really hate all the dead cells crossover or refrence content in games. or atleast how its done. they always refrence the "Prisoner" having no head. Curse of the dead gods newest update was also a crossover with Dead cells and they took a chest from the game. and a new curse. that visually replaces your head with that of the main character of dead cells. Like I don't mind that dead cells became a hit and is popular but if your going to do some crossover content. can you take some less surface element stuff. i'm tired of seeing the same stuff refrenced over an over in different games in relation to deadcells

this is copy pasted from a another place i didn't want to retype. but for me it takes away from the own game's unique flavor cause when this content pops up. it doesn't feel like a Dead cells refrence with a CoTDGs spin it just reminds me of dead cells. it just annoys me.

cause I am a purist gamer blah blah and outside influence ruins me blah blah. okay done.

Sorry for necro, but I feel it's a good vehicle for the Dead Cells content integration

Honestly, I feel the dead cells crossover was pretty well executed, we got:

Explosive crossbow: a reskinned gun but with a new off-hand mechanic, fun as heck mobility
Broadsword: A really good mechanical nod with second and third hit critting on the most naturally fitting weapon class (and it does mean the "Prisoner" wields a 2-hander in a single slot, which is also a neat nod)
Cursed Sword: integration of the instant death on-hit mechanic and high risk/reward

Cursed Chest rooms are pretty sweet, integrating the chest's counter directly into the game's mechanic, albeit less punishing. I believe it's a really good spin and a good quality borrow/nod.

Curse of the Headless isn't just visual, it's a direct nod to the extra damage taken affix, the cursed chest mechanic (again) and Dead Cell's speed centric focus, you are literally "cursed" as a chest would curse you in Dead Cells and you get to keep the extra bonus (speed) once you defeat all the enemies, breaking the established rules of CotDG that Curses themselves HAVE a downside (it's the only curse you can cleanse that way!)

What do you feel was lackluster about the added content?

I agree with Goroku.

It is not surface level things taken from dead cells.
They took mechanics, items, and even curses from Dead Cells and adapted them to Dead Gods, and they did it well.

They arent going to completely rework how their game works to make it a 2d game if thats what you were expecting. The time and effort something like that would require would be absolutely ridiculous.

Collabs are not meant to deeply change either of the two games. They are meant to be an exchange of small gifts. A few items, a level or two, a few enemies, maybe a cameo or skin.

I dont know if Dead Cells got any new stuff from Dead Gods, but it would be awesome to get like the dude's cursed arm (as some sort of claw or something) and maybe titan breaker. They could make a new active skill that has the icon from Dead Gods, and it puts that symbol above your head and gives you a small curse. If you clear that curse, maybe you get a flask charge, or 50 cells, or something hefty. It could offer a variety of curses, and basically just be a reusable bonus mission w/ added difficulty.

Have fun.

there's a some crossovers with Dead Cells (the smashlike Brawlout = complete character and arena, Skul= the main hub are quite similar and some head/power) and they really well incorporated the spirit of the game. Their Half-life crossover his well done but not groundbreaking (skin and some weapon like the crowbar). I won't be surprised that Motion Twin may include a skin of Caradog in Dead Cells.
