Anyone else want to NOT unlock weapons?
Like why would I want a bunch of pistols polluting my weapon pool? Feels counterproductive and weird to want to avoid using a mechanic in a game.

That's not an issue related to the game, that's an issue of you not liking pistols. If you unlocked enough of them that you feel it compromises your playstyle, you could invest in other weapons to compensate, or in divine favours for rerolling them.

Also, pistols are great. Good ranged dmg and a solid zoning AoE on the offhand combo.

Is there any weapon you don't like unlocking? I feel similar about bows. I play this game to fight in melee though.

Overall I just find it weird that watering down the weapon pool is a bad thing, and I'm left with all these Jade Rings.

Yeah, yet another dev who failed to learn the lesson of adding a heap of basic things to the pool meaning unlocks aren't always positive.

Personally, though, I look at it a little differently here since these weapons actually used to just be normal weapons in the game. Everything got thrown behind made up locks just to fabricate some semblance of metaprogression (the whole jade ring thing was poorly considered), so I see at it as just the slow returning the game to the intended state.

Also, make sure you try out their AoE interrupt (fire comboed after a main-hand attack) a bit before you throw them in the bin. It's a great melee shockwave tool.

Pistol and Sword "off hand combo" stuns and its AoE close range.

pistols are my no.1 off-hand choice. The offhand combo is just op: fast, stagger, aoe and high dmg.

Wow so much usefull input "You are wrong to not like X cos i like it!" ;p let him discover the game on his own, not everyone likes everything, i think whips are the most op thing in the game but my inner Belmont activates when i get a whip, giving me a clear morale boost to skill thus skewing the reallity of whip usefullness.

Anyway, don't fret, the pool is already poluted.
You have a hard chance for each weapon from start modified by armory upgrades not by weapons unlocked, the unlocked weapons dont cause more of the type to appear, instead they increase the ammount of non-default things that you can roll, AFTER you already rolled X.
In short: the game decided for pistol first, then it decides WHAT pistol.

So unlock your favs first to get a better fav when you get fav then unlock the rest cos why not. I mean you can go one step further and say: "I dont want anything but electric cos it's OP!". Well then you "kind of" polute the pool but honestly no cos i think the game actually swaps weak default commons/rares etc. for their stronger similar counterparts from the unlock roster. Thus making weapon unlock universally worth it.

Hmm are you 100% sure of this? Never seen word of this before from the devs. But yeah if that was the case it'd somewhat avoid/fix the problem, although I'd still never unlock weapons that I like less than other ones, even in the same type.

Can't source-quote it, it simply comes from reading everything, experience, observation and knowing how games are made. I am not 100% sure but it seems to be the case (if this would be a card game, by reading the texts and descriptions it certainly is so, is it really so on the mechanical side of things? As i said, not 100% but seems so very much).

I just unlock everything because I like variety and adjusting my gameplay to the drops of the game.
What do you prefer? The same weapons over and over again? Boring and meaningless.

Gotta agree with that one too ;p spice is nice.

Okay, so you don't know for sure. I've read and played and designed a lot of games too, and there's no guarantee the weapon pool here isn't a straight random of all available weapons. You got me all hopeful too :steamhappy:

... Just wow. Ok.
Just... maybe try reading everything someone says in a general sense as a total of information on a subject not just select few sentences, that would be my life tip.
I am also afraid that the answers you seek (at least to the degree of certainty you seek) can only come from a devs mouth so you will most probably never know then.
Sorry i could not help more.

I have no idea what the devs did here but in another game I remember the devs had coded the following:
- they rolled randomly across all weapons
- if it rolled on a unlocked weapon, players got it.
- if it rolled on a locked weapon, player got a basic no-bonus one.

The players that didn't unlock weapons "for better loot LULZ" were actively shooting themselves in the foot. That was funny when it got out.

1st playthrough you may unlock all weapons, next playthrough you might unlock your favorites then for a challenge your 3rd or 4th playthrough you might unlock only weapons you hate. you control it, how you want it, i don't see a problem with it.
yEAH i'M JUST STICKING TO THE THROWING BLADES and claws outside of a few bigguns like the jaguar guy's spear and oops caps lock lol. I might also try the auto parry shield again, just picked it up in a run and loved it. I primarily dodge, outside of the one chest curse, so it's nice that if I screw up I have a second chance perk going for me
