Swimming bug hardlock

Hello.

My friend was streaming this game but after doing some swimming they got stuck in this area and now they cannot get out even with going back to the title screen. They're considering starting over but they want to try and get one of their gifs they didn't save yet. Any help?

for the time being, if you want to "reset" your position, you have a couple options.

1) pause the game, open "Options," then select "Teleport to Luncheon" at the bottom of the menu. this will warp you to safety!

2) access chapter select in beta branch:
right click chicory in your steam library > properties > betas > select "beta."
steam will download an older version of the with some debug settings enabled. run that version, pause, open "chapter select" and warp to the chapter with a star next to it. your save data might be slightly altered, but your drawings and npc states etc. should be preserved and you'll be in a safe zone.

3) edit your save data directly
navigate to C:/users/yourname/appdata/local/paintdog/save and open _playdata in notepad
the first 3 lines are numbers that represent the world x,y,z position you are in. you can change what screen you are on by altering the first 2 lines (x,y) by adjusting them up or down by 1. You can also set it to 0,1,0 and you will be back in luncheon town square.

Wasn't from swimming, was just after the start of chapter 3 looking for an item I missed, but I managed to paint-swim myself into a situation where I got zipped out of bounds. I can walk around a little, but can't get out at all.

Oh my God, I am over the moon! Went for the second method to go back to Luncheon square and our 5 hours of playtime are saved! Thank you so much for the quick response!

Managed to Softlock my game, again. I don't want to delete my save please help

it seems like I have a specialty for softlocking myself since I managed to do so in the Demo and now again. screenshot provided. Basically I came in from the screen to the right, thought "hey I could swim up these small diagonal-textured walls at the edge of the soil (below where you could normally walk), then got into one of those "repeatedly falling into water minor-lock" bug that never scared me because every single TIME I get that bug, I can simply save & quit and often get repositioned into safety.

so I do the same thing I always do, save and quit, continue the game. To my surprise, I managed to go to the "left" (exact screen I'm linking). then I get the mini costume on the screen above there and.. I can't go back. I've been trying for 15 minutes to go back, swimming back the small wall edge I came from to the right, and I keep failing.

help?

Swimming bug in streamer house

I got myself out of bounce in the streamer house in Brekkie. I'm stuck now and I don't know how to get out.

Got this bug 3-4 times in the 10 minutes following getting the ability to wall swim. Basically I end up swimming on non-swimmable walls. It's very easy to trigger on the way back to the surface after getting that ability (e.g. on the wall used to exit the insect town, with the bug that reacts with surprise when you wall-swim in front of them).
So far I have managed to un-soft-lock myself by mashing jump near the top of the wall and the junction with the swimmable section.

PS: the game is fantastic! (taking the opportunity to mention it here since I got it on another store)

thanks for the kind words. it's super impressive that you can do it so easily! we can't, and we haven' seen anyone else get OOB in that area. if you are willing, we'd love to see a video if possible, it would help us fix it ^^;

I'll try to go and reproduce it. Interestingly, past those few first 10 minutes it has not happened to me again (and since then I covered a lot more of the map that's been made accessible with that ability).

Just spent 20 minutes on a couple walls I knew for certain I got stuck on - impossible to reproduce! Aaaaah. I'll focus on completing the game while recording my playthrough in case it happens again.

EDIT: just finished the game 100% and never ran into that bug again. Ah well...

What a gem of a game! Thank you so much for something that will stay with me for a looong time!

Thanks so much for this fix, managed to find a way into a future Chapter area from the caves leading to Feast while trying to go back and get an item, went into a boss battle and ended up at the start of Chapter 7 by accident! Loving the game so much so delighted I don't have to restart my progress and there were ways for me to go back and follow the intended route by you folks instead.
