Only 20 hours long?
I've seen a review where said reviewer said, that it only took him 18 hours to beat the game.
Do you guys think this is true or have any confirmation?
Such a short length for a JRPG is surely a turn off for me.

Yep, it's around 20 hours long.

Character endings are also DLC this time. The base game only has one ending and events push the plot a lot more than previous entries (it's more linear) so there's not as much replayability for the series.

For what it's worth, what IS there is apparently really good.

Bro wtf?? That is a SIN for a JRPG to be that short. What happened to the days of Ps1 rpgs that were 60 hours long in the main story? Ill wait for sale. Thanks for posting this .

If someone finished this game in 18 hours they were super rushing it, I saw a streamer with 22+ hours only in chapter 3.

Reviewers rush games to get their crappy article out for clicks

That may be my review you're talking about! I actually have about 30 hours in the game, but it did only take me 18 hours to clear the main story (without skipping any cutscenes, etc.). It took me just under 30 for Lulua, so Ryza is just a shorter game (doesn't make it any less fun though!).

There were Japanese reports who stated this also, but I have more than 40 hours in Lulua and I'm little more halfway into the game because I play with alchemy a lot.
If the alchemy system has a bit depth then I'll be ok.

Not all of us. I didn't publish my Mary Skelter review until I'd finished the game. I played 106 hours before I got the first ending. I remember the PR rep being rather surprised at how much I'd played it though.

Just as much depth (if not more) than Lulua!
I'm reviewing the game as well and am currently about 30 hours in and not done. The guy that beat the game in 18 hours rushed through the main story as fast as he could and barely did any of the sidequests. No one plays Atelier games simply to rush through the main story, so don't judge the game by his playtime.

40-60+hrs if you want to max out every character stat

Gameplay is closer to 40+ hours if you play the game casually with the aim in completing all the side quests. There is also post-game content and the ability to NG+ if you want extra playtime.

20 hrs for people who rush it and doesn't do side content, endgame content.
