However, KT did not do any PC optimizations as usual, and received review bombing by new players. They are currently developing an update.
there's something wrong with the physics so it's capped to 30 fps by default, but the gameplay is still 60 fps, although it's pretty hard to see the sway and "bouncing" physics (you know what I mean) if you're playing it in 60 fps
and I can assure you that DoF, bloom, and ambient occlusion is in this game, because those are literally the effect that stands out most lol
Just wanted to make sure, hard to kinda trust a company with a really bad track records on PC Ports, especially when they leave ♥♥♥♥ like Tonemapping out of some of their games that makes about no sense, I'll wait a bit more until they've deployed that patch before buying. Thanks for the info lads.
Port isnt buggy like Firis or Sophie were at launch, just missing options to change graphics ingame, and missing mouse support.
No need to wait for a patch for that. They are mostly adding stuff like mouse support which wont be an issue if you plan on using the controller, and the graphics settings (which you can already edit via nvidia control panel etc~)
There's actually already been 2 user mods to add some stuff to the game. (one for adding graphics stuff not present in the ps4 version either, and the other to add DS4 button prompts)
Koei's patch is really just to ''please'' the new people doing the review bombing. Its unlikely it will add real changes.
Unless you really plan on using mouse no matter what, in that case its probable better to wait~
It does make good business sense for KT to invest in the PC engine when they have a "potential hit" who may become repeat customers next game. Unfortunately, they have not really bothered to invest in their PC port division, as it seems like they believe that they have a dedicated fanbase that is willing to look past the flaws in their PC ports.
If "people leaving legitimate feedback on how unpolished the PC port is" is considered "review bombing", then it means the market for their product has grown past their usual fanbase, which is willing to accept the quality of the existing PC ports. As Ryza grows past its existing fanbase, I'm not surprised to see KT's lack of polish in their PC port finally biting them hard.
TLDR: Atelier Ryza is so popular that new customers are turned off by the quality of the PC port. Koei Tecmo is now learning that the cost of investing too little in the PC port is costing them both refunds and potential customers for their next generation of games.
I've had those thoughts as well, tho im somewhat surprised someone else would make that link. The crowd drawn to the game seems to be a ways different from the usual one, both in good and bad ways.
That said, I did mean ''overblown critisisme'' not ''legitimate feedback''.
I wouldnt consider the port good by any means, but its not unplayable port either. Yet reviews (not all of them ofcourse) would suggest this port is broken. Because it has no mouse support. These people dont care about any issues with graphical rendering or how well the game runs. They only cared that they couldnt use their prefered control device.
Large amounts of negative reviews as a result = review bombing. Would you disagree and say that lack of mouse support is a major issue for a game like this?
I believe you underestimate the phenomena. Nevermind grown past their usual fanbase, it seems to have gone past the usual jprg crowd.
I havent seen so many players who didnt know about their laptops integrated card in...maybe ever. A laptop using jrpg player will likely run into the issue once then never again, meaning that a sizable amount of new players hadnt played any (non AAA) jprg games on their laptop before as almost all of them will default to the integrated card.
So it would seem that the crowd drawn to the games now is notably more 'mainstream'.
It would be great if Koei steps up their game and puts more effort into next ports as a result. But personally I dont believe the players that made those overblown reviews are going to return/continue playing Atelier games, nor do I believe that Koei is going to remember this come next release.
TLDR:
Many of the reviews complained about lack of mouse support and ignored all else, or used a laptop and didnt know about their graphics cards yet both called the game unplayable, hence ''review bombing''
It would be great if Koei steps up their game and puts more effort into next ports as a result.
But I'm not sure if its a good idea to rely these kinds of reviews. If Koei does greatly improve the ports, that they still wouldnt find something else to complain about.
Maybe im just too pessimestic. I would certainly be glad to be proved wrong in either case.
full K&M support, 60 fps physics, and added graphics options
